Times Herald-Record

MIDDLETOWN - City police are asking the public for help to identify a man whose mummified remains were found Tuesday afternoon inside a trailer parked in a wooded spot behind 219 Dolson Ave.

After a post-mortem examination Wednesday morning, Middletown police said that foul play is not suspected. The cause of death is pending toxicology, if possible, and other reports, police said.

Police said the desiccated remains were found in the trailer about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. The man is described as being an unknown age, with graying brown or red hair and about 5 feet 4 inches tall. He had no teeth.

On Wednesday, there was evidence that police had recently visited a small Skamper 100s trailer near the rear of a vacant lot strewn with stone, grass and weeds. The lot is adjacent to the Middletown wastewater treatment center and behind the Middletown Commons strip mall, past the Taco Bell.

Strewn near the trailer were garbage bags with clothes and blankets and other personal items such as soap and deodorant. A white Tyvek-style suit, often used by police during investigations, lay bunched up beside the trailer.

Police say the unidentified man was wearing a plaid shirt of unknown color, blue jeans and work boots. He wore an older Casio wrist watch that did not have a digital display and on his right hip he wore several carabiners attached to a key chain. On the key chain was a small flashlight, a key tag with the name “Allison” on it and a bottle opener.

Anyone with information is being asked to call Middletown police at 343-3151.

Human remains found in Middletown identified

Police on the scene in May
MIDDLETOWN – After four months of testing, authorities have determined the remains of a man found in a wooded area behind 225 Dolsen Avenue in the City of Middletown have been identified.

Middletown Police said the man, Stephen Skok, 73, was identified from DNA profile as a Middletown resident with a former address on Liberty Street.

Skok’s family has been contacted and advised of the findings.

The exact cause of death remains undetermined, but appears to have been an underlying natural cause, authorities said.

Skok’s body was found in an abandoned camper at that location.
