Body found in Merrimack River that of missing Lowell man By Robert Mills, rmills@lowellsun.com UPDATED: 05/04/2017 08:12:06 AM EDT Rathana "Jonathan" Pin, 23, of Lowell, smiles as he plays with two of his cousin's children in a recent photo. He was reported missing April 1 and his body was found in the Merrimack River in Andover over the weekend. COURTESY PHOTO LOWELL -- A 23-year-old Lowell man who was missing for more than a month as his family desperately searched for him was found dead in the Merrimack River in Andover on Saturday, according to police and a family member. Rathana "Jonathan" Pin had been missing since April 1, when he was supposed to visit his cousin and her children in Lawrence but never showed up. Carrie Kimball Monahan, a spokeswoman for the Essex District Attorney's Office, said a man's body was spotted in the Merrimack River near Jillian Way in Andover by a crew coach from Phillips Academy who was in a motorboat on the river early Saturday afternoon. That coach notified Environmental Police who were in the area, Kimball Monahan said. Both police and a family member confirmed the body was that of Pin on Wednesday. Kimball Monahan would not comment on a suspected cause of death, but said no foul play is suspected. Moni Sreng, of Lawrence, a cousin of Pin, had helped lead the search effort when Pin was missing, and said it was out of character for Pin to go long without contacting family since he was family-oriented. It was Sreng's children who Pin was expected to visit in Lawrence on the night he went missing. Family members posted missing-person posters and photographs of Pin around Lowell and the surrounding area as they searched for him for weeks. Pin's live-in girlfriend said in early April that her boyfriend had recently purchased a new car and loved the job he had recently been working.
