Missing Meridian man's pickup found after not arriving at work
KTVB , KTVB 9:11 PM. MDT April 25, 2017

MERIDIAN - Police asked for the public's help Tuesday night to help find a Meridian man whose pickup was found along the Boise River after he didn't show up for work on Monday.

Meridian police said Mark Allen Rose, 55, left for his job in Nampa at around 6 a.m. - but he never arrived.

Relative called police at around 11 a.m., worried about him not arriving at work - and concerned because he suffers from depression.

Police issued an alert for Rose and his gray 2004 Chevrolet pickup with plate number 1A8005X.

The Canyon County Sheriff's Office notified Meridian police at around 1 p.m. after finding the pickup at a sportsman's access along the Boise River at 21319 Midland Boulevard.

A sheriff's office tracking dog lost the scent after a short time.

Rose is described as 5 feet 10 inches and 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing khakis, a gray shirt and a blue fleece jacket.

If you have any information or had any contact with Rose on Monday, you're asked to call Meridian police at 888-6678.

Family of Mark Rose, missing for almost 8 weeks, keeps search efforts, hope alive
Officials await test results of possible blood samples found in Rose's truck by the river
By Holly Beech Jun 16, 2017

The family of a Meridian man missing since April 24 maintains hope that he will come home.

Mark Rose, 55, was reported missing after not showing up for work in Nampa. His truck was later found by the Boise River in Canyon County.

Police have called off search efforts until the dangerous river flow subsides. Traces of blood from the truck have been sent out for DNA testing, said Steve Rose, Mark’s brother.

“We’re not positive whose blood it is,” he said. “And even if it is Mark’s, then why? … There are a billion questions.”

Acquaintances have helped search the river area using drones, and the Rose family plans to hire a helicopter for another air search. They have little information in their effort to piece together what happened.

“There’s so many ‘what ifs,’” said Tammie Rose, Mark’s wife of 29 years. “We could just drive ourselves crazy trying to figure it out — and we have been.”

“It can be a daily struggle,” Steve added. “Every time the phone rings, you’re hoping.”

Mark Rose hadn’t shown any signs that he might be in danger of hurting himself, family members said. He made Tammie’s lunch the day he went missing — just like he did every morning before work. The couple hugged goodbye and said “I love you” before they left.

“Everything was completely normal, normal routine,” Tammie Rose said.

Getting a call that Mark was missing felt unreal, she said.

“He’d been employed at the same employer for 28 years,” Tammie said. “For him just not to show up to work, that’s not like him at all.”

Mark Rose worked at Tom Scott Honda in Nampa. The company was being sold, which had put some stress on Mark, the family said, but not to the extent that they worried for his safety.

The family is mulling over many possibilities of why Mark went missing, including if he hit his head and suffered amnesia, or if he stopped to help someone and was attacked.

“Mark is the guy that’ll pull over and help somebody if they’ve got their hood up,” Steve Rose said. “And with it being rainy and nasty out, if somebody was hitchhiking, Mark would probably offer to help.”

Meridian Police, which is investigating the case, does not suspect foul play, Lt. Jamie Leslie said.

“Everything that we have so far leads us to believe that he most likely intended on harming himself,” Leslie said.

Police will likely search the river again when the conditions are safe, he said.

After a person has been missing for more than 30 days, police must submit a packet to the Federal Bureau of Investigation with information, such as dental records, that would help identify a body if found in the future, Leslie said. The missing person’s name remains in the National Crime Information Center’s database.

The period of waiting and uncertainty has been agonizing, Tammie Rose said. She pulled up pictures on her phone of Mark with their 2-year-old grandson, Noah. Mark was wearing a Boise State Bronco shirt in each picture — his typical wardrobe, she said. He even got a Bronco tattoo on his shoulder.

Noah is too young to understand why his grandfather isn’t around.

“He doesn’t really talk much about it,” Tammie said. “He just says, ‘When Papa comes back, when Papa comes back.’”

With each day that passes, the Rose family hopes for Mark’s return and strives to keep the search alive.

“It gets harder every day,” Steve Rose said. “We wouldn’t wish this on anybody.”

The body of missing Meridian man Mark Rose, who went missing in April, has been found in the Boise River, according to family members and Meridian Police. He was 55 years old.

Steve Rose, Mark’s brother who lives in Boise, said volunteers were out looking near the river on Sunday and saw a tennis shoe sticking up out of debris.

“The family’s got closure, but there will always be questions,” Rose said.

Mark Rose’s body was recovered from the Boise River, roughly 200 yards from where his pickup was found in April, by the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office and Middleton Fire Department, according to Meridian Police. It was near a sportsman’s access on Midland Boulevard.

No cause of death has been determined. Meridian Police are still investigating the case, but it will probably be closed with an exception — meaning police can’t determine what happened, Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea said.

Canyon County Coroner Vicki DeGeus-Morris said she did an external exam of the body with a Meridian detective present, but she will not perform an autopsy because the body has decomposed. The findings from the external exam did not determine if injuries to the body were caused by being in the river or from some other type of harm, such as an attack, according to the coroner.

DeGues-Morris said she identified the body based on tattoos, information from the detective and the family’s description of what Mark Rose was wearing when he went missing.

CLOSURE, BUT QUESTIONS, FOR THE FAMILY

Steve Rose said the circumstances of his brother’s death are still unclear. Mark did not show up for work at Tom Scott Toyota in Nampa on April 24 and wasn’t seen again after that.

“There’s still questions in the family’s mind because there’s just no reason for Mark to have wanted to do this to himself,” Steve Rose said.

Steve Rose said his brother’s driver’s license was missing from his wallet.

“Everything else was in his wallet but his driver’s license,” he said. “That doesn’t make a lot of sense.”

Mark Rose’s wedding band was returned to his wife of 29 years, Tammie Rose.

“That in itself, you know, was a good thing,” Steve Rose said.

Friends and volunteers have been tremendous, he said. Tammie’s pastor and fellow church members from Meridian continued to search the river after Mark went missing.

“Of course, that meant a lot to us,” Steve said.

The church will hold a celebration of Mark’s life later this month. He was a brother, husband, father and grandfather, and he has been sorely missed, Steve said.

“You just can’t forget somebody like Mark,” he said.

DAUGHTER’S STATEMENT

Mark and Tammie Rose’s daughter, Haylee Rose, shared a Facebook post in memory of her father and thanking the community for all the support. With permission from the family, the post reads:

“Thank you to everyone who has donated, brought food, cried with us, hugged us, made us laugh, searched on foot, by drone and plane and who has prayed for us, mentally and physically helped us. There is not a way I could even begin to repay you all.

“With that, I’m heartbroken, but thankful to say that my dads body was recovered on Sunday, July 9th near where is truck was found by the river. It’s a bitter sweet feeling and I don’t know where to begin to heal the hole in my heart, but you all have made it so much easier with all the support.

“Please continue to pray for us as we can now fully grieve. Just a reminder, hug one another, don’t leave things unsaid and most importantly, love one another, life is short and in the blink of an eye everything can change and you can’t go back. I love you dad. Never will I be able to tell you enough. #restinpeace”
