Human remains found in shed destroyed by fire, officials say

TOWN OF IXONIA, Wis. - Human remains were found inside a shed that caught fire Monday morning in the town of Ixonia, officials said.

The state fire marshal was called Monday to two fires on the same property, according to a release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Firefighters were called at 6:16 a.m. to W2355 Northside Road on a report of a structure fire. When they arrived, they found a shed and a residence were both on fire.

Officials said human remains were found inside the shed at the Northside Road property.

According to the release, the identity of the remains is undetermined at this time.

The Ixonia Fire Department was assisted by 24 units from other local fire departments.

JEFFERSON, Wis. (AP) -- Jefferson County authorities say the human remains found in a shed after a fire in the Town of Ixonia last month came from two people.

Sheriff Paul Milbrath says one set of remains has been identified as 61-year-old Brion Downie, who lived in a home on the property. The second set of remains has still not been identified. Additional DNA tests are being conducted.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, they belong to 61-year-old Brion Downle who lived at the residence on Northside Road in the Town of Ixonia.

Sheriff officials said another set of remains have yet to be identified. Additional DNA tests are being conducted.

Crews responded to a report of a structural fire on April 24. When they arrived on scene, they found a shed and residence on the property on fire.

JEFFERSON COUNTY — Jefferson County officials have identified the second set of human remains recovered in a shed that burned on April 24th in Ixonia.

On August 18th, authorities reported the second set of remains belonged to 52-year-old Charles Lawrence, who lived at the home.

Another set of remains was identified on May 16th, as those of 61-year-old Brion Downie, who also lived at the home.

The fire happened inside a shed located on Northside Drive near County Highway P in Ixonia around 6:15 a.m. on April 24th.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, officials were called out for the report of a structure fire, and found a shed and residence on the property with working fires.

The human remains were discovered a day later.

The Ixonia Fire Department was assisted by 24 other units from various departments in and out of Jefferson County in fighting this fire.

The investigation is ongoing.
