Missing George Fox student's body found; police say he committed suicide by KATU.com StaffTuesday, April 25th 2017 Daniel Mellers. (Photo via-Newberg-Dundee Police Department) AA SHERWOOD, Ore. — Police found the body of a missing 21-year-old George Fox University student Monday night in the trunk of his car. They said Daniel Mellers committed suicide. Mellers, from Colorado, hadn’t been seen since late Saturday night. His roommates told police they hadn't seen him since a late-night run to the store for soda. When he didn't return as expected, they went looking for him. Police joined the search after the missing persons report came in Sunday afternoon. On Monday night police said a Sherwood resident called them after spotting Mellers’ car in the area of Southwest Houston Drive near Spratlin Lane. At about 7:30 p.m. officers with Sherwood and Newberg-Dundee police departments were able to unlock Mellers’ car and found him dead inside the trunk. “Based on the details learned during this investigation, we are confident Daniel took his own life and there is no threat to the public,” Newberg-Dundee Capt. Jeff Kosmicki said in a statement. George Fox also released a statement, thanking the police departments. “We are grieving over the loss of Daniel,” said Brad Lau, vice president of student life. “This is not the conclusion to the search we were hoping and praying for. We would ask that people would keep Daniel’s family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.” The school said it will have pastors and counselors available for those who need them.
