ALBANY -- “Sometimes I don't know if I could go on with the next day not knowing where he is.” Debbie Brown said her husband, 52-year-old Dariel Young, has been missing since October 25th of last year. She said she spoke to her high school sweetheart every day for 30 years. She knew something was wrong when he did not answer his phone that day. “It was just not like him not to respond to my phone calls.” Brown said. “And for it to go straight to voice mail, it concerned me.” Community members prayed for answers during a vigil at Henry Johnson Park Friday evening. Young was born and raised in Albany. Relatives said his family is large and many people in the neighborhood know him. That is why loved ones including, several of his nine siblings, wonder how he could just disappear. “This is someone that was up and down the street, helping everybody in the neighborhood,” said Young’s brother, Henry Young Jr. “And just to be, just to vanish seemed to be off the face, out of the community, was pretty shocking to us,” he said. One of his brothers, Dennis, was the last person to see Young last October. Albany police are investigating his disappearance as a missing person case. “Honestly I think something bad has happened,” said one of Young’s sons, Darrell. Young's children say they are trying to keep his memory alive. “He always tried to teach me how to cook,” said Young’s daughter, Dana. “I miss those. Those moments,” she said. His son Davon just celebrated a birthday on February 5th, Super Bowl Sunday, without his dad. “Usually he's like the first one, like 12'oclock on the dot: happy birthday,” Davon said. “So I didn't get that from him. So it was just kind of hard to enjoy it,” he said. Everyone is hoping and praying for his safe return. “I miss you just come home,” Brown said. Anyone with information about Young's disappearance is asked to contact the department immediately. Young’s family is offing a $1,000 dollar reward for information leading to his whereabouts. (NEWS10) – Friends and family held a vigil in Albany Friday night for a local man who’s been missing since October of last year. So far, police have not had any leads of his whereabouts. Dariel young, 52, was last seen on October 25th on Second Avenue in Albany. His family is continuing to ask for the public’s help in finding him because they’re saying his disappearance has caused them a lot of pain. Anger and frustration felt all around people wanting police to do more on finding one of their loved ones. A table was set up at Henry Johnson Park where candles were lit, prayers were read and songs were sung. His family says this vigil was a way for them to remind the community that Dariel is still missing. “If you’re used to seeing someone every day, and then one day you just don’t see them or hear from them anymore and that’s not him,” Michelle Brown, sister-in-law, said. People stepped forward during the candlelight vigil, sharing their best memories of him. “He cooked, cut hair, he did construction work, yard work, whatever, he did it all,” Michelle said. But the most emotional of all was his wife of 30 years Debbie Brown. She says they were high school sweethearts and they never went a day without talking, sometimes getting up to ten phone calls from him. “It’s been really hard sometimes waking up,” Debbie said. “Sometimes I don’t know if I can go on with the next step not knowing where he is.” They have this message for Dariel with hopes he is still out there. “Come home,” Michelle said. “I miss you, just come home,” Debbie said. The family says they are offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who may know where he is or have any information that can help with the case. Anyone with information on Young’s whereabouts is urged to contact Albany Police at (518) 462-8013. |
