KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -Two months have passed now since the disappearance of a Kilgore woman, who was pregnant at the time, and still no clues as to where she vanished
to. Sheryia Grant, of Kilgore, was eight months pregnant when she was last seen on August the 20th. Her due date has come and gone.

In spite of a huge search effort by family and friends, there’s still no information for where Sheryia is.

Two months after her mysterious disappearance the family is tormented by the thought of her and her unborn child vanishing without a trace.

"And that really is mind boggling to me. Because really I just want both of them back," says Sheryia's grandmother, Arnita Grant.

After having a day out, the day before she disappeared, Grant arrived at her Kilgore home safely. It was the last time she was seen.

Family says she simply would not have vanished on her own, that she always stayed in touch, and had big plans for the future.

"It was all about the baby because she told me she was only taking three weeks off work because she had to do a lot for her baby. She wanted her
baby to have everything. It was all about the baby," Arnita says.

It's equally frustrating for the family that after two months, no one has come forward with any information on her whereabouts.

"It's kind of hard right now but I've told our family we've got to be strong and stick together, and keep praying," says Arnita.

And Arnita says the family has a continued hope that an answer will come.

"Somebody, somebody out there will come forward. Come forward, just come forward. I'll be glad when that day comes so we can have some closure,"
she says.

Kilgore police continue to work the investigation into grants disappearance.

Vigil marks 1-year anniversary of Kilgore woman's disappearance

KILGORE — More than 100 family, friends, law enforcement officers and Kilgore community officials gathered Saturday evening at Martin Luther King Jr. Park to show vigilance in seeking justice for a woman who went missing a year ago.

Sheryia Grant was reported missing Aug. 20, 2016. She was eight months pregnant at the time she went missing, and although three people have been charged in connection with her disappearance, her body has not been recovered. Police believe Grant was killed soon after she vanished.

"It's been real hard on me and the family," said Grant's grandmother, Arinta Grant. "I wanted to throw a vigil for her."

Led by family and the Rev. Ella Mae Walker, the crowd joined in prayer before releasing pink, white and dark gray balloons while holding candles at dusk.

"I'm happy that we can still come together and still be strong for her," said Grant's sister, Sheaira Grant, adding that the family will "continue to pray, continue to be with my family, grandma, nieces and nephews, sisters and brothers, stay strong for them and bring Gator home."

"Gator" was a nickname given to Grant when she was an infant because "she used to crawl on her belly," her sister said.

In March, a Rusk County grand jury returned sealed indictments that led authorities to arrest 22-year-old Laneshia Lashae Brager-Young, 28-year-old Allen Lamont Sutton Jr., and a juvenile from Arp in connection with Grant's death on charges including tampering or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair a human corpse in Rusk County.

Sutton, of Kilgore, remains in the Gregg County Jail on $505,500 bond, while Brager-Young of Overton was released from jail in April on $505,000 bond.

Police have said evidence uncovered during the investigation indicates Grant was killed shortly after she was reported missing.

On Friday, Kilgore Detective Tim Dukes said police are interviewing as leads come in to help find Grant's body and fully solve the case.

"At this point, it is a waiting game," Dukes said.

When a possible crime occurs, tips are common, and police have to sift through that information, but over time, that changes. Keeping Grant's name in the public means it's more likely a valuable piece of information will come in.

"We are just hoping to talk to people who really know something," he said. "You never know when your little bit of information may help."

Dukes said it is important to find Grant's body so her family can begin healing.

"At this point, it is the recovery of Ms. Grant. We want to find her and let the family do what they need to do," Dukes said.

Gregg and Rusk County Crime Stoppers are offering a combined award up to $10,000 for information about the case and the whereabouts of Grant's body.

Anyone with information about the case call Detective Stephen Goodson at (903) 218-6903 or Dukes at (903) 218-6904.

Anyone with information also may call Gregg County Crime Stoppers at (903) 236- STOP, Rusk County Crime Stoppers at (903) 655-TIPS or text an anonymous tip to 847411 + KILGORE + your tip.
