Only after the last tree has been
cut down;
Only after the last fish has been
caught;
Only after the last river has been
poisoned;
Only then will you realize
that money cannot be eaten.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police are asking for the public’s help in finding a 64-year-old man who went missing on September 8.

Police originally considered Turner as missing, but now say he is in danger. Austin Police Detective J.J. Schmidt says authorities believe Turner is still in the immediate Austin area.

“We feel at this point in our investigation that Mr Turner is in danger and that it’s imperative that we locate him,” Schmidt says.

Turner was last seen at 8801 South I-35, at the intersection of 35 and East Slaughter Lane, where a gas station, IHOP and Home Depot share a parking lot. He was caught on a gas station security camera at about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8. Police say he made a phone call to his girlfriend and common law wife, Jerry Roberts, at 11:15 a.m. Detective Schmidt says Turner told his girlfriend that an altercation was about to take place, followed by the phone call abruptly ending.

His white van was in the parking lot for about 3 days and was later recovered by his girlfriend. Police then took the van for its investigation.

Police say there was a delay in reporting of 3 days to police, as well as conflicting statements made to law enforcement. Schmidt says there is a possibility that narcotics and money are motives in the case.

Authorities are asking for anyone who was in the area of the IHOP during that time on September 8 to contact the Austin Police Department or Crime Stoppers if they have any information.

Turner was last seen wearing a straw cowboy hat, a blue, short-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and he walks with a cane.

The Missing Persons Unit, with the assistance of the Homicide Cold Case Unit, is investigating the case. The Texas Rangers have also joined the investigation and efforts to find Turner.
