http://www.mywabashvalley.com/news/identifying-jane-doe Identifying Jane Doe By Lindsey Harrison Published 10/16 2015 06:29PM Updated 10/16 2015 07:15PM CASEY, Il. The woman's remains were found on an entrance ramp off of I-70 in Illinois. Investigators aren't revealing how she died, but they say it was a homicide. Investigators don't know who she was, much less who killed her, but they want the public to know they haven't forgotten about her. The ramps on I-70, near Casey, Illinois don't look much different than they did two years ago. But on October 18, 2013, highway workers found the body of woman on one of these entrance ramps. Investigators know she is a homicide victim, but they don't know her name. Casey Police Chief, Mark Jenkins said, "The case is something that's extremely troubling to us. As law enforcement we want to solve every homicide." Officials say they've done everything they can to find out her identity. "We've got a fingerprint off of her. We got a DNA sample. We've got dental samples. We had facial reconstruction done," explained Clark County Coroner Jeff Pearce. The woman is said to be 20-30 years old, 5 feet 3 inches, and 140 pounds with dark hair. Peace said, "It is absolutely frustrating because we know somewhere there's a mom or a dad or a sister or a brother." Pearce says they've put her information in a national database that checks it against missing persons reports every night. There have been several close matches, but no true ID. "That's our first obstacle. We don't have any idea who this young girl is," explained Jenkins. "Somewhere in the neighborhood of 40,000 vehicles a day go by that intersection. She could have come from anywhere in the United States." But they're not giving up hope yet. Jenkins said, "I'm still very positive that eventually something is gong to come up." "We just want to make sure people know we haven't forgotten, we're still trying," added Pearce. Hopefully someday, everything will come together and we can find out who she belongs to and get her home." Finding where she belongs is proving to be difficult. Police aren't sure anyone has even reported the woman missing. Unless someone has been reported missing, the national database will not match them. Officers need someone to come forward with information, or to report the woman missing so they can finally give her a name. Police have sifted through many tips over the last two years, that have unfortunately not led to an ID. They're still asking anyone with information to call Indiana State Police. |
