http://www.eastoregonian.com/free/loggers-...19bb2963f4.html Loggers find human remains at Harris Park Posted: Wednesday, July 9, 2014 12:18 pm | Updated: 8:59 pm, Wed Jul 9, 2014. By PHIL WRIGHT East Oregonian The investigation continues into the human remains of a male found Monday near Harris Park in Umatilla County. Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan reported a logging company found the remains Monday afternoon off Lincton Mountain Road near Highway 204 above Harris Park. Deputies found what appeared to be skeletal remains that look several years old scattered across a roughly 50-yard radius, according to a written statement from Rowan. The sheriff’s office contacted the state medical examiner, which directed the collecting and documenting of the remains. A forensic scientist from the Oregon State Police Crime Lab on Tuesday confirmed the skeletal remains belonged to a male. Deputies returned to the area with Oregon State Police Forensics and Umatilla County Search and Rescue, along with help from the Walla Walla County Search and Rescue, and performed a more extensive search and collected additional remains. The State Medical Examiner’s Office in Portland will examine the remains, the sheriff's office reported. Harris Park is a Umatilla County owned and operated recreation site in the Blue Mountains about 14 miles southeast of Milton-Freewater. The area was subject to a search in early November 2005 for Byron Fusselman, 19, of Milton-Freewater. His Jeep Cherokee was in the Harris Park parking lot, but he was not. The weather was freezing and Fusselman was not dressed for cold temperatures, according to East Oregonian news stories. “At this time there isn’t really any indication of the method of death, or how long the remains have been in the area, so we will need to have the State Medical Examiner’s Office perform their examination before we know what we are dealing with,” Rowan said in a statement. The sheriff’s office also found a self-reported missing man this week. Cameron Noble at about 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday told emergency dispatchers he was lost somewhere in the area of Yellow Jacket Road south of Pilot Rock. Noble said he was from Texas and was walking to John Day, and would eventually walk to Reno, Nevada. Search and rescue found Noble at 3:07 a.m. near a fire he built. He was not in any type of medical crisis, the sheriff's office reported, and he was given a ride to the bus station in Pendleton. |
