HENDERSON COUNTY, Ky. — Authorities said a leg was found in the Ohio River Friday afternoon, prompting a search for other possible body parts.

The Henderson County Coroner's Office said the leg, with a shoe on its foot, was found around 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Ohio River off of Riverport Road.

Bryant Woodard, chief of the Henderson City County Rescue Squad, said members of a barge crew found the leg.

Along with the rescue squad, Deputy Coroner Don Farris said dive teams, including divers with the Henderson Fire Department and Perry Township were searching the water for more body parts.

Woodard said Ohio Valley Search and Rescue were using cadaver dogs to search the banks of the river for more body parts.

The coroner's office has taken custody of the leg, according to Henderson County Coroner Bruce Farmer.

The leg will be transported to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville on Saturday, Farris said.

"They'll try to get DNA extracted from it," Farris said.

As of 6 p.m., the leg was the only body part located, he said.

New Details Revealed About Human Leg Found In Ohio River

New details have been released about a human leg recovered from the Ohio River on Friday.

According to the Henderson County Coroner, the leg is believed to belong to a man.

Crew members on a barge spotted the leg and a tennis shoe on Friday afternoon. Cadaver dogs and dive teams searched the water but didn't find anything else.

Authorities say they do not suspect foul play, but can't rule it out.

The coroner's office says it appears the leg had been in the water for some time.
