DOUGLAS COUNTY, NV - A sergeant with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office has confirmed to KOLO 8 that a set of human skeletal remains was found Monday evening near Spooner Lake.

It is unclear how the remains were discovered, or how long they have been in the area, but it appears they were there long enough to decompose.

Deputies are working to collect the remains and transport them to the Washoe County Medical Examiners Office for cause of death and Identification.

They were found in a secluded area near off Kings Canyon Road. That is the last exit westbound before the Highway 28 Junction on Highway 50.

KOLO 8 is working to get more information on this breaking story.

The television station also reported that the body is mostly bones and appears to have been there for months or years.

The remains will be transported to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy. At this time the cause of death is unknown.
