Bones that are likely human remains were found Monday afternoon buried in a vacant lot on Milwaukee's north side, police said. Police were called to the lot in the 1200 block of N. 13th St. at about 5 p.m. after the bones were unearthed during a construction project, according to a Milwaukee Police Department news release. Milwaukee police will work with the Wisconsin State Crime Lab and the Milwaukee County medical examiner's office to recover and identify the bones and determine the cause of death, according to the release. http://www.jsonline.com/news/likely-human-...-263380171.html |

Ell Only after the last tree has been cut down; Only after the last fish has been caught; Only after the last river has been poisoned; Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten. | |

http://www.wisn.com/news/man-who-found-bon...668#!be8dCF By Max Seigle Man who found bones talks about eerie find Garden used to be old burial site UPDATED 11:03 PM CDT Jun 17, 2014 MILWAUKEE —New details are coming out about human remains found at a construction site at 13th Street and Juneau Avenue in Milwaukee. Through a translator, worker Anastacio Vazquez told WISN 12 News about the eerie find he and his co-workers made in a community garden. "We thought the bone that we found belonged to an animal, Also we found another piece of the skull that holds the eye, and we realized these bones belong to a human body," Vazquez said through the translator. Milwaukee police told WISN 12 News the community garden used to be an old burial site years ago. Vazquez said he had no idea. He was just trying to do his job. At the time of discovery, workers were digging holes in the garden for a new watering system. Vazquez said he saw the first set of bones in the hole and then more bones in another hole nearby. "Parts of a hand, hip and leg," he said. The find is drawing archaeologists to the garden. "I thought I would just come out and see how extensive the disturbance was and to get the lay of the land here," University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee archaeologist Patricia Richards said. Richards said a discovery like this isn't unusual in urban areas. "There are whole series of them associated with them either with municipalities or with churches that were used and re-purposed, and most of them were supposed to have been moved and many of them were not," Richards said. Vazquez is still taking it all in. The bones are currently at the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office. Officials there haven't heard yet if anyone will be examining them. In the meantime, the garden is shut down in the area where crews found the remains. |
