http://beaconnews.ca/blog/2014/04/human-re...akes-road-area/ Human remains found in Vermillion Lakes Road area Jo Ann Lawrence | April 30, 2014 Vermillion Lakes Road closed Wednesday for police investigation More bones were discovered by officers searching the area of the Vermillion Lakes Road in Banff National Park. In early April, bones were found in the Vermillion Lakes Road area located in Banff National Park. At that time, the bones were seized by police and have since been confirmed by the medical examiner as human remains . On Wednesday, RCMP officers were able to search the area where the bones were found for evidence. Until today, weather and ground conditions did not allow for a proper search of the site. RCMP “K” Division Special Tactical Operations Unit found additional bones in the area on Wednesday. Cpl. C Kosack of the Banff RCMP says the bones will be processed by the Calgary RCMP Forensic Identification Section and will then be sent to the Office of the Medical Examiner for further examination. Banff RCMP and the Calgary RCMP Major Crime Unit will continue to investigate the remains. To accommodate the search, RCMP closed off the Vermillion Lakes Road to the public on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, police expected the road would be reopened by 6 p.m., but now the estimated time for the reopening is 9 p.m. Anyone with information on the investigation is asked to contact the Banff RCMP at 403 762 2228. Vermillion Lakes Road is a 4.3 Km long scenic roadway located west of the Banff townsite that runs parallel to the Trans Canada Highway and is accessed from Mt Norquay Rd. |
