Human torso found along Ohio River bank

AVALON, Pa. — Several law enforcement agencies are investigating after a human torso was found along the Ohio River bank Tuesday.

Authorities said the Avalon police chief was the one who found the torso -- believed to be a male with the approximate age of 30 to 40.

Channel 11’s Renee Kaminski reported crews appeared to be looking for more body parts on Thursday afternoon.

Kaminski reported the area where the remains were found is so remote you have to cross a double set of train tracks to get to the riverbank, which is covered in rocks.

Anyone with information that could be helpful in the investigation is asked to contact the Allegheny County Police.

Skeletal remains recovered from Ohio River
Workers find remains on river bank in Avalon
UPDATED 7:33 PM EDT Apr 17, 2014

AVALON, Pa. —Skeletonized remains that were recovered from the Ohio River this week are human, the Allegheny County medical examiner said Wednesday.

An examination by a forensic anthropologist determined that the partial remains found in Avalon are those of a man who was approximately 30 to 40 years old.

Avalon Police Chief Tom Kokoski described the remains as a torso and said that they were found on a river bank, not far from some railroad tracks.

"The torso, it seemed like it washed up on the surface of the bank. It wasn't actually totally on land, nor was it totally on water, either," said Kokoski.

Medical Examiner Dr. Karl Williams declined to give any other details, but his office is asking anyone to call county police if they have information that may help the investigation.
