Human skeletal remains were found Wednesday afternoon on property east of Easton, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office reports.

The bones were discovered about 3 p.m. by a woman walking on her property south of Orange and Clayton avenues, Lt. John Golden said.

The woman saw objects sticking out of the ground and realized they were bones as she drew closer, he said.

Her family called the sheriff's office and a deputy confirmed the find, said sheriff's office spokesman deputy Chris Curtice.

The remains were found in a seasonal pond that is now dry and estimated to be at least a year old by a coroner's deputy at the scene, Curtice said.

"It looked like they were in an open area that is sometimes covered in water about an acre (in size)," he said.

He had no information about the gender, race or age of the victim, or the cause of death, which is being labeled as questionable.

Curtice said the bones might have been under the water line for at least a year; grass is now growing in the area where water would normally be.

The ponding area is surrounded by a stand of eucalyptus trees, about a quarter mile east of South Orange Avenue.

Only after the last tree has been
cut down;
Only after the last fish has been
caught;
Only after the last river has been
poisoned;
Only then will you realize
that money cannot be eaten.
