Body found in Ohio River near Ambridge
March 24, 2014 8:36 PM
By Robert Zullo / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Police in Ambridge are attempting to identify the body of a man found in the Ohio River this afternoon.

The body of a white man about 30 years old was found about 2:15 p.m. by an employee at Pittsburgh Intermodal Terminals, which has an unloading dock in Ambridge, and was pulled from the water with the help of local firefighters.

The man, described by Ambridge police Chief James Mann as about 6 feet 2 inches or 6 feet 3 inches tall and about 230 or 240 pounds, was found hung up on a log between a barge and the riverbank.

Chief Mann said the man wasn't wearing a shirt and had no obvious signs of trauma, such as a gunshot or stab wound. There were no apparent tattoos. The chief estimated that the body had been in the water a few weeks and what little hair was left is brown. An autopsy is being conducted tonight by the Beaver County coroner.

The man was clothed in blue jeans, with workout pants or shorts with a wide gold stripe underneath. He also wore tan combat boots, a blue Ann Arbor Police rubber bracelet on his right wrist and a yellow "Live Strong" rubber bracelet on the other wrist.

Chief Mann said he called the Ann Arbor police and was told the department has not issued the bracelets in about 15 years.

Anyone with any information is asked to call 724-266-3270.

Man found dead in Pennsylvania was wearing Ann Arbor memorabilia
By Ben Freed

Items located with a man found dead in southwestern Pennsylvania Monday may indicate that he had connections to Ann Arbor.

Workers unloading a barge in Port Ambridge Industrial Park, about 20 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, found the body of a white man in his 30s weighing between 230 and 250 pounds about 2 p.m. Monday in the Ohio River.

Ann Arbor Police Department detective sergeant Pat Hughes said that the man was wearing a rubber bracelet that said “Ann Arbor Police, your friends in blue.” Police passed out the rubber bracelets at the Ann Arbor Art Fairs in 2013, and possibly 2012 as well. Initial media reports had said that the bracelet had not been distributed for 15 years.

Sgt. Hughes added that the man was wearing University of Michigan mesh shorts underneath a pair of blue jeans.

“They were a pair of navy blue mesh shorts with yellow stripes on each side and a Michigan ‘M’ on the right side,” he said.

Autopsy results are pending from the Beaver County coroner and the Abridge Police Department is leading the investigation.

Sgt. Hughes said that the man was bald, had a piercing on his left earlobe and may have had some facial hair around his mouth. He was also wearing two additional bracelets, a yellow rubber Livestrong bracelet and a braided bracelet that was green and brown with dark beads interlaced.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Ann Arbor police anonymous tip line at 734-794-6939.

This is the closest match I could find on the MSP page:

Kevin Mitchell Kulek
He's within an inch of the height estimate, weight is close, brown eyes, he has brown facial hair and he wore University of Michigan-branded clothing. However, he's been missing since 2001 and he's ten years older than the age estimate, making this doubtful.
