Detroit — Tree trimmers found decaying human remains hidden in a pile of melting snow Wednesday afternoon on the city's east side, according to police.

DTE Energy Co. contractors were removing tree limbs from around power lines at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Riopelle and Minnesota when they discovered the remains, Sgt. Michael Woody said.

“They were skeletal remains, but it sounds like there was still flesh on the bones,” Woody said.

Police are awaiting results from the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine if the cause of death could be homicide as well as the identity of the victim.

No other information was immediately available.
