Decapitated Body And Head Discovered Near San Gabriel River Trail

A decapitated body was found near the San Gabriel River Trail on Thursday and the head was discovered about 15 feet away.

The gruesome discovery was made around 5:20 p.m. near Irwindale Ave. and Foothill Blvd. in a homeless encampment in Irwindale, according to a statement from the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. Homicide Bureau. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported a homeless man searching for recyclables came across the headless body.

The Irwindale Police Dept. are investigating the case with help from the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. Sgt. Scott Hoglund of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau told the Tribune that the body (which is mostly skeletal remains) had most likely been there for several weeks. He also said it appeared to be "animal activity" that caused the head to be separated from the body. Investigators say the body belongs to an unknown adult male.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
