Human remains found near Lake Keechelus Posted: Tuesday, June 12, 2012 9:51 am By BARB OWENS staff writer Volunteers with Kittitas County Search and Rescue will assist the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office this week with a thorough search of an area near Lake Keechelus where human remains were found last month. Kittitas County Undersheriff Clay Myers said human remains were found a few weeks ago down river from Lake Keechelus. Two hikers found the remains near the river at the east end of the lake and reported it to sheriff’s detectives, Myers said. Detectives have gone to the area a few times and recovered a little bit more each time, Myers said, but due to the amount of snow still in the area, the sheriff’s office held off on doing a thorough search until this week. Volunteers and sheriff’s detectives will be looking for more remains and any additional evidence, Myers said. The area where the remains were found is in thick trees. Not much is known So far not much is known about the remains that were found, including how old they might be. The sheriff’s office is making arrangements to have the remains examined, Myers said. There are no missing persons from Kittitas County, Myers said. A missing-person case from 2005 involving a North Bend man is unsolved. Gregory Brown, 49, from North Bend, was last seen at the Rachel Lake trailhead, northeast of Lake Keechelus, in July 2005. Myers said so far there isn’t anything to match the remains to Brown. http://www.dailyrecordnews.com/news/human-...1a4bcf887a.html |

Kittitas County Press Release Sheriff FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Update. Search for human remains concluded Kittitas County, WA - 06/14/2012 - Sheriff's investigators concluded the search for remains near Lake Keechelus, 35 miles West of Ellensburg. No further remains were located and the scene was released this afternoon. Following a report from 2 hikers on May 13th, Sheriff's Detectives recovered human remains from a heavily wooded area just south of the Lake Keechelus Dam. Preliminary investigation indicate the remains are that of a adult male. Some of the remains, which appear to have been scattered by animals, were recovered May 14th but a thorough search was hampered by remaining snow in the shaded areas of the dense woods. As the snow has melted, investigators have expanded the search and recovered additional remains. As noted in the attached photograph, a large search will take place today using trained volunteers from the Kittitas County Search & Rescue Unit and members from Central Washington Anthropologists. Thus far we have no specific details relating to the identity or age of the individual. Once the forensic examinations are complete the information will be run through the missing person data base. http://www.dailyrecordnews.com/news/search...1a4bcf887a.html Search for human remains near Lake Keechelus complete Posted: Friday, June 15, 2012 2:15 pm | Updated: 2:40 pm, Fri Jun 15, 2012. By BARB OWENS staff writer The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by dogs and several search and rescue volunteers, wrapped up its search of an area near Lake Keechelus Thursday afternoon without finding additional human remains or evidence. On May 13 a pair of hikers found human remains in a wooded area south of the Lake Keechelus Dam, according to Kittitas County Undersheriff Clay Myers. Sheriff’s detectives recovered some of the remains, which appeared to have been scattered by animals, on May 14, but an expanded search of the area was delayed because of snow. Adult male A preliminary investigation indicates that the remains are that of an adult man, Myers said, adding that there are no missing persons from Kittitas County who match that description. Myers said many people have called the sheriff’s office to get more information, but until the remains are examined and some sort of profile is established, not much is known. When a forensic examination is complete, the information can be plugged into a missing person’s database, Myers said. |
