http://www.wtvm.com/story/17381167/gbi-nee...und-3-years-ago GBI needs help identifying remains found 3 years ago Posted: Apr 11, 2012 4:30 AM EDT Updated: Apr 11, 2012 4:52 AM EDT By Roslyn Giles HARRIS COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is asking for your help in identifying remains found in Harris County three years ago. The remains were discovered in May 2009 near Interstate 185 south of the Troup County line. The remains belong to a black female, age 35 to 59, according to authorities. GBI Spokesman John Bankhead said investigators have checked the missing persons cases in that area but the remains do not match up with those. Initially, investigators thought the skeletal remains belonged to a missing Talbot County woman but a DNA test proved otherwise. GBI has provided a sketch of the woman in hopes that someone can identify her. Anyone with information can call the GBI office in Columbus at 706-565-7888 or the GBI Tip Line at 1-800-597-8477.

Note: Date Discrepency HARRIS COUNTY, GA - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is asking for your help identifying human skeletal remains found in Harris County three years ago. GBI forensic artists have released a photograph--they believe those remains belong to a woman resembling a constructed model. "It appeared to be a black female in her late 30's, so we are making leeway slowly but surely in the identification and solving of this crime," Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley says. The remains were found on May 25th 2009 off Interstate 185 and Highway 18, just south of the Troup County line. Investigators have checked missing persons cases in the area, and initially thought the remains could be those of a missing Talbot County woman, but DNA tests prove otherwise. "People watch TV and they see movies like Bones and NCIS and they say well this can be done overnight, but in reality this type of technology takes a while and not always when you get this far in the investigation, does it move any faster," Jolley says. But the Harris County Sheriff's Office says this is a big step in the right direction in solving this crime. "Justice is sure, it may be slow but it's sure and we will identify the female and we will eventually solve how this crime took place," Jolley says. Authorities say there is also a possibility the woman was not from this area. If you have any information on this woman's identity, you can call the GBI at 706-565-7888 or the Harris County Sheriff's Office at 706-628-4211. http://www.wltz.com/story/17382747/gbi-ask...o-human-remains |
