http://blogs.pe.com/news/digest/2010/07/ri...k-for-help.html Riverside police ask for help in missing man case By PE News on July 29, 2010 11:50 AM As tearful relatives looked on, Riverside Police investigators this morning appealed for the public's assistance in finding a man missing since July 8. Describing Donald William Tobin's disappearance as "suspicious," Lt. Michael Perea asked anyone who may have spotted or who knows the whereabouts of Tobin to contact police as soon as possible. "We're reached a juncture where we need the public's assistance," he said. Tobin, 51, was reported missing on July 9. Perea said he was last seen on the afternoon of July 8. His silver 2007 Toyota Corolla was found abandoned on July 11 at Carlson Dog Park on Mission Inn Avenue with items such as his wallet and cell phone still inside. Detective Mike Medici said that in the ensuing weeks, police have conducted extensive searches of the surrounding area, including the Santa Ana River bottom and Mt. Rubidoux, which both lie adjacent to the dog park. Medici said two reported sightings of Tobin one in Las Vegas and one locally did not pan out. Tobin's sister, Dana Eriksen, of Riverside, said she and her mother spoke to him on a regular basis every month and it was out of character for him to be out of touch for such a long period of time. "My brother would never do this to us," Eriksen said. "Something is wrong." Anyone with information about Tobin's whereabouts are asked to call 951-353-7136 ir 951-353-7104. |

Newsletters | Share News conference on missing Riverside man canceled after police get new information Download story podcast 10:00 PM PDT on Thursday, July 22, 2010 The Press-Enterprise A news conference scheduled for Friday morning to discuss the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of a Riverside man has been canceled. In an e-mail, Riverside police homicide Sgt. Mark Rossi said investigators received new information Thursday about Donald William Tobin, 52, and had to assess it before talking publicly about the case. The e-mail did not elaborate on what the information was, and investigators could not be reached for comment. Tobin was last seen about 11 a.m. July 8 driving his silver 2007 Toyota Corolla. The car was found three days later at the Carlson Dog Park at the foot of Mount Rubidoux, with his wallet and phone still inside. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Detective Greg Rowe at 951-353-7136 or, after hours and on weekends, police dispatch at 951-787-7911. http://www.pe.com/localnews/publicsafety/s...ed.46b0e12.html |

http://www.pe.com/localnews/stories/PE_New...14.2e68cf9.html Hope fades for family of missing Riverside man 11:16 PM PDT on Friday, August 13, 2010 By SANDRA STOKLEY The Press-Enterprise As days have turned into weeks, the family of Donald William Tobin has begun to think they will never see him alive again. "I don't think so," Riverside resident Dana Eriksen said of her brother, who was last seen July 8. "At this point we just want him back so we can give him a decent burial," she said. "He deserves that." Bobbi Wilson, the mother of missing Riverside man Donald Tobin, and Dana Eriksen, his sister, dont have much hope that they will see Tobin alive again. But they at least want the closure of knowing what happened to him. Her mother, Bobbi Wilson, remains torn between trying to accept that her son is probably dead and hanging on to a thread of hope that he will be found alive and well. "Your heart doesn't always accept what your head is telling you," she said. She paused for a moment, fighting back tears, and then said softly, "I don't have much expectation at this point." Tobin, 51, was reported missing July 9. His silver 2007 Toyota Corolla was found abandoned the morning of July 11, parked at Carlson Dog Park -- on Mission Inn Avenue just blocks from his Riverside home -- with his wallet and cell phone still inside. There has been no cell phone or bank activity since July 8 and Tobin's paycheck has gone unclaimed. Riverside police Detective Michael Medici said the Santa Ana River bottom and Mount Rubidoux, both of which are adjacent to the dog park, have been searched with dogs. He said there have been six reported sightings of Tobin, but none have panned out. "It's like he walked off a cliff into nowhere," Wilson said. Medici said detectives have pursued three possible scenarios: that Tobin left and doesn't want to be found; that he's the victim of a homicide; or that he's being held against his will. Medici said the theory that Tobin is somewhere and doesn't want to be found is unlikely based on his past actions. If there has been a homicide, "we have no crime scene and no body," he said. And he said there has been no ransom demand or contact that would support a kidnapping theory. The possibility of suicide has been mostly discounted. Wilson said that at the time Tobin vanished, another son was critically ill. She said Tobin would not put her through the ordeal of dealing with a suicide at that point in time. Eriksen said she still holds out hope that someone who knows what happened to her brother will call -- even if it is with bad news. "The hardest part is not knowing what happened," she said. "If we had a body, we would know. We could plan something." Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Greg Rowe at 951-353-7136 or Medici at 951-787-7911. |

#CA Donald William Tobin, 51, MISSING suspicious circumstances Jul 31, 2010 9:55am by Cynthia Caron Lostnmissing Police seek help in missing man case By SANDRA STOKLEY The Press-Enterprise RIVERSIDE - As tearful relatives looked on, Riverside police investigators Thursday appealed to the public to help find a man who has been missing since July 8. Donald William Tobin, 51, was reported missing July 9. His silver 2007 Toyota Corolla was found abandoned July 11 at Carlson Dog Park at the base of Mount Rubidoux in central Riverside. Tobin's wallet and cell phone were inside. Investigators have termed the disappearance suspicious. "We're at a juncture where we need the public's assistance," Lt. Michael Perea said at a news conference Thursday. Tobin's mother, Bobbi Wilson, sister Dana Eriksen and sister-in-law Cathy Tobin, looked on while investigators made their announcement and answered questions. Detective Mike Medici, who is assigned to the investigation, said two sightings were reported last week -- one in Riverside and another in Las Vegas -- but neither panned out. "We don't know what happened to Mr. Tobin. We hope he is alive and well," Medici said. Eriksen, who lives in Riverside's Orangecrest neighborhood, made a personal plea: "If anybody has seen him, please call. Our family wants him home." She said her brother called her and their mother every month and would not be out of touch for such a long period of time. "My brother would never do this to us. Something is wrong," she said. Medici said Tobin left his Redwood Drive home July 8 to run errands and visit friends. He was last seen about 2 p.m. He said no one saw Tobin park his car at Carlson Dog Park, and it is not certain he drove it there. Medici said fingerprints have been recovered from the vehicle and are being analyzed. Because Carlson Dog Park lies between Mount Rubidoux and the Santa Ana River bottom, the Police Department used its helicopter and search dogs to comb the area. "We searched miles in both directions," Medici said. Eriksen said her brother often took his Chihuahua "Roscoe" to the dog park but he would not have gone hiking on Mount Rubidoux or in the river bottom. "My brother had a bad back. He was not a hiker," she said. Bobbi Wilson, who splits her time between Las Vegas and Riverside, said Tobin called her several times earlier this month to check on a brother who was ill. "He wasn't depressed or anything. He was just concerned about his brother," she said. Tobin was a manager at the Second Time Around thrift store on Elizabeth Avenue but was due to start a new job. Medici said Tobin did not pick up his paycheck. There also has been no bank activity or cell phone activity connected to his accounts since his disappearance. Anyone with information about Tobin is asked to call 951-353-7136 or 951-353-7104 http://lostnmissing.amplify.com/2010/07/31...-circumstances/ |

RIVERSIDE: $10,000 reward offered in mans disappearance Terry Pierson/The Press-Enterprise ((2010 file photo)) Holding a picture of Donald William Tobin, 52 of Riverside who disapeared are his mom, Bobbi Wilson of Las Vegas, left and sister, Dana Eriksen of Riverside. (Terry Pierson, The Press-Enterprise) BY BRIAN ROKOS STAFF WRITER brokos@pe.com Published: 20 March 2012 10:45 PM A Text Size Related WEBLINK Riverside City Council agenda WEBLINK PE: Hope fades for family of missing man (Aug. 14, 2010) WEBLINK PE: Police seek help in case of missing man (July 30, 2010) The family of a Riverside man who vanished 20 months ago hopes that a $10,000 reward will produce leads in a case where there are none. The Riverside City Council on Tuesday approved the reward for information on the whereabouts of Donald Tobin, 51. The money will come from an account that holds cash seized from criminals. Theres got to be somebody who knows something, and we hope that someone will come forward, Tobins sister, Dana Eriksen, said in a telephone interview. Even if its one person, thats all we need. Riverside police Lt. Guy Toussaint said that Tobins body has not been found and that there are no suspects. Tobin was reported missing July 9, 2010. He had been en route to his storage unit in Riverside. His silver 2007 Toyota Corolla was found abandoned July 11 at Carlson Dog Park at the base of Mount Rubidoux. Tobin's wallet and cell phone were inside, and the car was locked. There was no evidence that Tobin was attacked or injured. Detectives have pursued three possible scenarios: that Tobin left and doesn't want to be found; that he's the victim of a homicide; or that he was being held against his will. No one has demanded ransom, and family members say Tobin would not have killed himself, especially not with a family member critically ill at the time. None of us believe he walked away. We think he walked into foul play, Eriksen said. Tobin was a manager at the Second Time Around thrift store on Elizabeth Avenue but was due to start a new job. He did not pick up his final paycheck. As a family, we are very grateful to the city of Riverside. And grateful to the Riverside city Police Department that they havent forgotten, Eriksen said. RIVERSIDE: Missing-man case haunts relatives, police Donald Tobin was last seen July 7, 2010, and seems to have completely fallen off the map; detectives believe he was killed Holding a picture of Donald William Tobin, 52, of Riverside, are his mother, Bobbi Wilson, left, and sister, Dana Eriksen. Tobin was reported missing in July 2010 and has not been seen since. Police believe he was slain. THE PRESS-ENTERPRISE, 2010 On July 7, 2010, Riverside resident Donald William Tobin, 52, climbed in his silver 2007 Toyota Corolla and drove toward a storage facility in the city. Two days later, he was reported missing. Two days after that, his car was found abandoned at Riverside(tm)s Carlson Dog Park at the base of Mount Rubidoux, parked in a stall with his identification card, wallet and cellphone locked inside. All banking, phone and other electronic activity immediately ceased. Tobin never showed up for his new job as a driver with the Inland AIDS Project, and he has not been seen or heard from since. The mystery has vexed relatives and police. It(tm)s been an agonizing almost four years, said Tobin(tm)s sister, Dana Eriksen. Now, Riverside police are again asking the public for any morsel of information " even anonymously " that might at minimum lead them to Tobin, or his body. They believe he was killed. This one bothers me, Detective Mike Medici said. It keeps grinding on you. You are anxious to solve it for the family and you have the unknown " where is he? Tobin could have gone to the park to meet someone and left in that person(tm)s car, Medici said. Or Tobin could have been walking around the park and gotten robbed and killed. Police have investigated cases where a body is located years later, Medici said, so he remains hopeful that Tobin(tm)s remains could provide clues that would identify his killer. We know he will eventually show up, but it puts a crimp in the investigation when you don(tm)t have the body, Medici said. Detectives have questioned all known associates and exhausted the leads that periodically trickle in. Medici said he believes somebody knows something that could be useful in the investigation. If someone has information of any kind, I want to hear it, and they can remain anonymous, he said. Someone is going to have to have a heart and a conscience and give me information. Tipsters can call Medici at 951-353-7104 or Detective Greg Rowe at 951-353-7136. Contact Brian Rokos at 951-368-9569 or brokos@pe.com http://www.pe.com/articles/tobin-688423-me...nformation.html |
