Authorities move closer to identifying Jane Doe
First Coast News 9:36 a.m. EDT October 18, 2015

FORT MCCOY, Fla. -- Researchers have recreated the face of a woman found in the woods of northeast Marion County nearly 50 years ago.

Detectives say because of advancements in 3-D printing technology researchers from the University of South Florida were recently able to make a sculpture of a face of the woman.

The remains of "Jane Doe" were reported to have been found near the town of Fort McCoy on Oct. 2, 1967 and despite hundreds of investigative hours deputies say they have been unsuccessful in identifying the woman.

The only description released by deputies of "Jane Doe" is that she was between 25 and 40 years old at the time of her death, and she likely died from a gunshot wound.

Investigators say with the new profile, as well as with DNA technology, they are hoping to determine the woman's identity.

"The idea is that we're going to put out an image of what they look like and all other information that we can about the case in hopes that we can get them identified, that somebody who knows something will come forward," said Dr. Erin Kimmerle, the Associate Professor of Anthropology at USF.

Anyone who can identify the Marion County woman or is seeking more information on the cold case can call the MCSO at 352-732-9111.
