The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office is hoping a braided friendship bracelet, encrusted heart pendant and blue beaded earring help identify a gray-haired woman whose body washed up in the Willamette River last month.

A boater spotted the woman's body near Swan Island on the afternoon of May 31. It was the first of three adult bodies found in the river in the past ten days. Police quickly identified one, a woman, as a missing person from Portland. The next, a man carrying ID, offered no mystery.

But the woman found on the last Sunday in May -- whose remains had been in the water at least six months and perhaps more than a year -- remains classified as a Jane Doe at the state medical examiner's office.

Today, sheriff's office spokeswoman Lt. Mary Lindstrand said she hoped releasing details about the woman would prompt someone who recognizes her to come forward.

"Someone has to be missing her," Lindstrand said.

Here's how the woman is described -- 50 to 60 years old, possibly Caucasian, standing about 5 foot 3 inches, with gray hair in a footlong braid down her back.

She was dressed in a blue hoodie with white and light blue ribbing at the neck and sleeves, now faded, and wore an assortment of necklaces and bracelets: a striped Embrace Diversity rubber bracelet, a yellow LiveStrong rubber bracelet, a woven reddish friendship bracelet, a yellow and green band, two elastic ponytail holders, a single earring with blue stones, a heart pendant surrounded by clear stones on a gold colored chain, another chain with a red-colored stone pendant and a ring with a pinkish-red stone.

Sound familiar? Call county's tip line 503 261-2847 and reference MCSO Case #09-403791.
