ME Hopes Public Will Identify 12 Unknown Bodies
MIAMI (CBS4) ¯ Click to enlarge1 of 11
This woman was found on the 300 block of NE 170th Street on March 10, 2006 after she was struck by a train.
Miami-Dade Medical Examiner
This man's body was floating in the Miami River when it was discovered on Dec.

During the past seven years, 12 bodies have remained unidentified at the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner's office and now officials have released descriptions hoping anyone who might recognize key characteristics will help identify them.

Before the bodies are buried, officials want to reach out to potential family members one last time, said Sandra Boyd, of the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's Office.

"There may be relatives out there looking for them who may not know the Medical Examiner's Office exists so if we get this out there now, we can bring closure to the family and save them an extra expense. Disinterring the remains can become costly," Boyd told CBS4.com.

Arists' renderings of the unidentified dozen are based on pictures taken after they were found.

Some have distinctive tattoos – like the man who was found dead over a riverside Miami sidewalk in 2008 who had the name "Clara Luz" tattooed above his left knee.

A man found in Opa-Locka who had been shot on a canal bank in 2006 had three large crucifix tattoos on his back.

Since 1957, the county has buried more than 200 unidentified bodies.

Anyone with information about these unidentified bodies is asked to call the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's Office at 305-545-2400.
