Their names are placeholders, anonymity with a date attached.

Three young females were found in the 1980s in Broward County, Florida. Their bodies were in various states of decomposition; one was just a skeleton after being left out in the elements for several years. All have been known simply as “Jane Doe,” along with their year of discovery.

But the Broward County Sheriff’s Office has not given up on naming them, and finding those responsible for their deaths.

Three new composite sketches of what the teenagers looked like in life have been composed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, based on CT scans of the skulls. Their jewelry or scars from injuries they suffered in their short lives are the few clues as to who these girls are, and how they ended up dead and alone.

“Having an image to go along with the case helps us tell the victim’s story, which we hope will give us the answer to who these children are,” said Carol Schweitzer, senior forensic case specialist at NCMEC.http://blog.missingkids.com/post/147105154...heir-names-back
The three victims were Jane Doe 1982, Jane Doe 1983, and Jane Doe 1988. All were short in stature, all were likely in their teens, and all have shared the anonymous moniker for decades.
•Jane Doe 1982 was discovered in a rock-pit pond in Pompano Beach on June 20, 1982. She had been dead two weeks. She stood between 5-foot-2 and 5-foot-6, and could have been between 13 and 20 years old. She was white. She was wearing a Chemise Lacoste brand blue-green and orange-striped long-sleeve V-neck weather, and a yellow metal necklace. She could have been a smoker, had one of her bottom molars extracted at one point during her short life, and had a fracture in one of her back vertebrae, likely from a car accident, or a fall.
•Jane Doe 1983 was found in Fort Lauderdale, in a wooded area along Route 27 on Sept. 19, 1983. She stood between 5 feet and 5-foot-4, and been between 11 and 19 years old. Though likely a Caucasian, she potentially had mixed ancestry. She had auburn-colored, medium-length hair, and at the time of her death had purple-painted toenails. She had Spina Bifida she would not have known about, since she was asymptomatic – but she had serious injuries to her left hip and left leg which had likely meant chronic pain and an altered range of motion. She had several fillings in her teeth, as well – meaning she had seen a dentist in life. She also was wearing a yellow gold chain with a seashell pendant when she was found.
•Jane Doe 1988 was found on Jan. 19, 1988, along a canal bank in the Everglades in Broward County. The remains had been there several years, so only a skeleton was left. She had stood about 5-foot-3, and is estimated to have been between 14 and 25 years old at the time of death. She was also white. She had multiple points of wear and tear on the bones of her lower back and pelvic region – but they could have been caused by a traumatic event, or by repetitive activity. At the time she was discovered, she was wearing a solid silver bracelet that had a floral design pattern.

The three females are a handful of the 700 deceased children who have remain unidentified for long-term periods, according to NCMEC.

The three young females do not appear to be linked, Schweitzer told Forensic Magazine in an email. Broward County authorities are working on the cases of seven unidentified children, and the three sketches were released at the same time for maximum exposure, she explained.

Getting the accurate images out there could help solve the mystery.

“We know that these young women have families, friends and even neighbors who know who they are and area searching for answers about what may have happened to them,” said Schweitzer. “We want to be able to give these children their names back.”

Those with information are asked to call NCMEC at 1-(800)-THE-LOST, or the Broward County Sheriff’s Office at (954) 764-4357.
