In the early morning hours of April 13th, 1946, the fully clothed torso of an unidentified middle-aged female was found floating in the Willamette River near Oak Grove. On April 14th, 1946, the torso’s arms and legs were located in the Willamette River. On October 13th, 1946, the corresponding head was found in the Willamette River in the Oak Grove area.

Investigators determined that the cause of death was a blunt force injury to the head. Her head, arms and legs were then sawn off. The body was then wrapped in feed bags and weighted down with window sash weights.

The victim has never been identified, nor has a suspect been identified.

The victim is described as a Caucasian female with brown and gray hair. She was 40-50 years of age, 5’2”-5’4” in height and roughly 125 pounds.

BODY OF WOMAN IS FOUND IN RIVER

Portland Oreg., April 13 (INS) Police had a gruesome mystery with few clues today when a sack pulled from the Williamette river yielded the headless, limbless body of a young woman.

Police said the torso had been thrown into the water somewhere above Portland in the last day and a half and added grimly, " The killer did a rather neat job of dismembering, he at least knew where the joints were.." The head, legs and arms were missing and the object of a widespread search.

FOOTPRINTS OFFER CLUE TO SLAYING

Milwaukee, Oreg. (AP) Footprints on the Williamette River bank near where a woman's nude torso and limbs were discovered gave Sheriff's officers their first clue Sunday in the slaying.

Deputy Sheriff E. L. Bacon reported the prints were very distinct and that state criminologists had obtained moulage casts which he said indicated a man wearing a size 8 or 9 shoe had climbed down the steep river bank and then re-traced his path.

The river is being dragged for the woman's head, hands, left leg and lower right leg all still missing.

TORSO KILLER HUNTED IN OREGON

Milwaukee,Oregon/ April 13. A nude torso discovered in the Williamette River was that of a woman past middle age, a pathologist reported today.

Warren Hunter, of the University of Oregon Medical School, said after the autopsy that the woman was "about 50." Earlier reports had identified the body found last night as that of a girl in her teens or early twenties and worried parents besieged police with inquiries all day.

The tugboat men pulled another gunnysack from the river, near Oregon City Falls containing the arms and right thigh of the woman.

Two of the men, George Rakel and Frank Metic, had noticed the sack in the river several weeks ago and decided to investigate after hearing of last night's discovery.

Sheriff Fred Reaksecker said the limbs had been chopped off from the joint. Officers will start dragging the river tomorrow morning for the head, hands, the left leg and right calf.

The woman was about 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighed approximately 140 to 150 pounds and had brown hair, Dr. Hunter reported.

"We're kind of stymied," Reaksecker said after receiving the autopsy report. "All our leads were pulled out from under us."
