Only after the last tree has been
cut down;
Only after the last fish has been
caught;
Only after the last river has been
poisoned;
Only then will you realize
that money cannot be eaten.

Missing March 6, 1981 from Warrington, Bucks County

Vital Statistics
Age at Time of Disappearance: 37 - about a month shy of her 38th birthday
Date of Birth: April 1943
Race: White

Case Details

The last time Gloria was seen alive was on Friday, March 6, 1981 as she left her job in Horsham, Montgomery County, just a short 6 miles or so from her home. She has not been seen since.

Gloria's brother had last spoken to her in early 1981, when he called her from his home in Massachusetts to say that their mother had undergone heart bypass surgery and was in the hospital. In the following weeks, her family made dozens of calls, being told that she either wasn't there or wouldn't come to the phone. They left numerous messages, but never heard back from Gloria.

In April 1981 Gloria's mother received a Mother's Day card, ostensibly from Gloria. It was signed not with the familiar "Love, Gloria" but the more formal "Gloria Korzon". And it wasn't in her handwriting. That is when her family contacted the police. When the then-police chief went to the Korzon residence, Gloria's husband said that she had gone to visit an aunt in Florida. Gloria had an aunt in Florida, but she had not heard from Gloria in months.

Gloria was married to William Korzon, known in the neighborhood as a gun collector and wife beater. About a month before Gloria disappeared, she sent a letter to her stepfather, instructing him not to open it unless something happened to her. The letter was a 3-page list of beatings that Gloria claimed to had suffered at the hands of her husband. The Korzons were not unknown to local police, who had responded to at least eight domestic incidents at their home between 1976 and 1980. Gloria filed for protection from abuse orders against William, but would always withdraw her complaints before the court hearings.

William Korzon was, and still is, the prime suspect in the disappearance and probable death of his wife. Police obtained a search warrant in 1986 to dig up his back yard. The first search turned up nothing, but the second search a week later yielded the body of Gloria's pet dog.

William Korzon divorced Gloria in 1987. She was declared dead in 1997 - sixteen years after she disappeared. Her mother died in July 1987, her step-father died in December 1989. Her brother, her only sibling, became sole beneficiary of her estate.

Gloria's husband has never been charged with her murder and her body has never been found.
