The Site: http://www.albertamissingpersons.ca. Alberta police use new website to find missing persons Last Updated: Tuesday, February 12, 2008 | 3:01 PM MT CBC News Police in Alberta launched a website Tuesday they hope will help them solve cases involving missing or even murdered people. Officers from across Alberta will use the site to post information about the cases and descriptions of the missing people in an attempt to get tips from the public that can be used in their investigations. Cpl. Wayne Oakes announces a new Alberta missing persons website. (CBC) Some of the cases involve people who have been reported missing by their families. Others are cases where police have found human remains or suspect missing people are victims of violence, police said. "There may be individual or unique characteristics, a particular missing tooth, as an example, say the upper left tooth is missing or they had very unique tattoos," RCMP Cpl. Wayne Oaks said. Police can also use the site to try to identify human remains. "There is a artist's reproduction of what they feel the individual may have looked like … and that may result in somebody looking at that and saying, I recognize that person or somebody who looks very close to that," Oakes said. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/edmonton/story/20...ng-persons.html |

RCMP in Alberta launch missing persons and unidentified human remains website 5 hours ago EDMONTON - An RCMP-led homicide and missing persons task force is teaming with other agencies in Alberta to create a database of missing persons and unidentified human remains. Police agencies from across Alberta will provide case information on missing persons to the website, which the public will have access to. The chief medical examiner's office will supply information on cases involving unidentified human remains. RCMP say the website will be managed by the Project KARE task force, but that doesn't mean all the people in the database are part of its investigations. The task force is investigating the deaths and disappearances of people who led high-risk lifestyles, including more than a dozen Edmonton-area prostitutes. Police say such a database is necessary because the public can play a "significant" role in helping to resolve such cases. http://canadianpress.google.com/article/AL...SGBTmxTCIAHLIfw |

CALGARY/AM770CHQR - The RCMP and municipal police forces across Alberta, as well as the medical examiner, have unveiled the Missing Persons and Unidentified Human Remains website. Project KARE, the missing and murdered women task force, will manage the website but this does not mean everyone listed in the database are Project KARE investigations. As of Tuesday, 34 cases are featured on the website but the number is expected to multiply as files are processed and entered. Priority attention will be given to cases where the person has been missing for more than 90 days or where circumstances indicate a need to seek the public's assistance. The website is www.albertamissingpersons.ca. http://www.770chqr.com/news/news_local.cfm...=news_local.cfm |
