Ruled Out! identified as Delvin J Hill http://www.progress-index.com/site/news.cf...id=642608&rfi=6 BREAKING NEWS:Remains identified as wanted Petersburg teen FROM STAFF REPORTS 07/14/2008 Email to a friendPrinter-friendly DINWIDDIE - A heavily decomposed body found in Carson is that of a teen wanted by police for a violent crime. Delvin J. Hill of Petersburg was identified months after the remains' discovery and two years after he went missing. A hunter found the body in the woods near Crater Road in Carson on January 29. The remains were described as "just some scattered bones" by Dinwiddie Sheriff B.B. "Dusty" Rhodes. "We could determine it was human," Rhodes told The Progress-Index in January. Monday, the Dinwiddie Sheriff's Office announced the remains were those of Hill. A cause of death could not be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond, the sheriff's office said. Hill was a suspect in the May 31, 2006 death of Alton Lane, the Petersburg Bureau of Police said in fall 2006. Lane, 53, was found gunned down at a home in the 1200 block of High Pearl Street on May 31, 2006. Hill and another suspect allegedly entered the home searching for Lane, who was found shot in the torso. "This was a very violent crime. Someone went into the home, demanded money and then shot someone else," Captain Gregory Seidel told The Progress-Index in 2006. "No matter the age of the suspect, it's a violent crime." Hill faced charges of capital murder, robbery, home invasion and use of a firearm in commission of a felony stemming from the incident that occurred when he was only 14. Petersburg police took the unusual step of distributing wanted posters bearing the juvenile suspect's likeness across the Delectable Heights neighborhood in the fall of 2006. He was viewed as armed and extremely dangerous at the time. Hill was reported missing at age 15, the sheriff's office said. Hill's body is with William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home. Services have not been announced. Today, both agencies are looking to solve how and why Hill went missing. Those with information are asked to contact Petersburg/Dinwiddie Crime Solvers at 861-1212. |
