COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A 19-year-old woman was found strangled in an abandoned apartment over the weekend. Now, police are searching for the man they believe killed her.

The body of Stephanie Ducheine was found in an apartment on East Morrill Avenue on Saturday, NBC 4's Mike Jackson reported.

The victim's family described Ducheine as caring, dependable and trusting. Her family members said they believe that Ducheine's trust in the wrong person brought them to their loss.

"She means everything to us. She was a great kid. There is worse kids out there, but she was trusting of people. I guess that was her downfall, by trusting the wrong person," said Marie Ducheine, the victim's aunt.

The Ducheine family said it believes Stephanie became acquainted online with a man who lived out of the state and met him face-to-face on Friday night.

Her family filed a missing person report on Saturday because it was uncharacteristic of her to not come home.

Police said they believe Michael Horton traveled to Columbus and strangled Ducheine.

"(I want to know) why he did that to a kid. She was only 19. She didn't do anything to him. I'm pretty sure of that. She didn't do nothing to him. He was vicious. He was possessed by the devil. That's why he did that. But, I hope may God have mercy on his soul," Marie Ducheine said.

Charges were filed against Horton, but police continue to search for him.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.

Murder suspect also wanted in St. Paul
Ex-girlfriend says he choked, beat her
By By Matthew Marx
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH • Wednesday November 21, 2007 5:44 AM

Murder suspect also wanted in St. Paul - A Minnesota woman was frightened to learn last night that her ex-boyfriend, who is accused of choking and beating her in St. Paul, is wanted for killing a woman in Columbus.

Domeneka Wright, 20, said that she and Michael D. Horton have a 14-month-old daughter together, and that he hurt both of them last month.

"Oh my god. Are you serious? Oh, hell no," Wright said, upon learning that Horton is accused of killing 19-year-old Stephanie Ducheine in a vacant South Side apartment. "I just don't want him to come back here -- then I'm next."

Ducheine's body was found inside 685 E. Morrill Ave., Apt. G, on Sunday afternoon. Horton, who was charged with her murder the next day, remained at large last night, police said.

Wright said she thought she was going to die on Oct. 4, when Horton placed both his hands around her neck and squeezed until she couldn't breathe, she said. Then he hit her in the nose and threw her to the floor, she said.

"That scared me to death," she said. "Dude is crazy."

Horton had been banging on the door, demanding to see their daughter, Myneka. He already was violating a court order to stay away from Wright after a prior domestic-violence conviction in Columbus.

Against her better judgment, she let him in and was attacked, she said. But she won't do that again.

Authorities in St. Paul have a warrant out for his arrest on charges of making terrorist threats and of domestic assault from the Oct. 4 attack. Columbus homicide detectives had no new information on the Ducheine case or his whereabouts yesterday.

If Horton isn't hiding in Ohio, where he has relatives, he might try to make it to Mississippi, where he also has family, Wright said. She's worried that with the murder charge, he has nothing to lose.

Information from WBNS-10TV was included in this story.
