http://www.8newsnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=13002968 Coroner Hopes to Identify Woman in Decades Old Death Posted: Aug 18, 2010 11:00 AM EDT LAS VEGAS -- A woman whose body was found at the Greyhound Bus Depot in downtown Las Vegas in 1982 could soon be identified. The Clark County Coroner's officer is exhuming the woman's body today in hopes of learning her identity. "This was probably someone's mother or grandmother and this project may be the last chance for her family to find out what happened to her," Clark County Coroner Mike Murphy said. ![]() The woman, who died of natural causes, was white and believed to be between 55 and 60 years old and 5' 5" tall. Police say after the woman died at the bus depot, her wallet was taken from her purse, leaving her identity unknown for nearly three decades. There are more than 160 cases in Clark County involving unidentified people. The county did receive a grant from the U.S. Justice Department to investigate some of those cases. The money is expected to pay for 24 exhumations. The information gathered will be sent to a national missing persons database to help identify the people. The Coroner's office has identified 32 missing persons since 2002 when it launched its Las Vegas Unidentified website. |
