Blue Earth Identified!!

Posted by Ell (The Cabinet) at Mar 18 2015, 05:10 AM. 0 comments

MINNEAPOLIS - A woman who was murdered 35 years ago in Blue Earth has finally been identified.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension announced the major development in the 1980 cold case on Tuesday, crediting advances in forensic science to identify her human remains.

The BCA said Michelle Yvette Busha, of Bay City, Texas, was 18 years old when she was murdered in Minnesota. She's been missing ever since.

Officials say her family is grateful to finally have an answer and get some closure in this case.

On May 30, 1980, Busha's body was discovered badly beaten in a ravine off Interstate 90, east of Blue Earth in Faribault County. She was reported missing in Texas on May 9.

It wasn't until nine years later that Robert Leroy Nelson, a former Minnesota State Patrol trooper, confessed to her murder and was sentenced to a life sentence in Texas -- for this and other crimes. Authorities say Busha was hitchhiking when she was picked up by Nelson.

Still, investigators were unable to identify the victim and her body was interred at Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.

On Aug. 12, 2014, as part of the BCA's effort to ID unidentified human remains, "Jane Doe's" body was exhumed.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children created a new sketch based on a new scull scan and x-rays from the original autopsy.

An isotope analysis on a bone and tooth was conducted by the Smithsonian to try and find information about her whereabouts at different points in her life.

Finally, BCA forensic scientists obtained a complete mitochondrial DNA profile and a partial nuclear DNA profile.

The DNA profiles led to her identity.

Busha's remains will now be returned to her family.

Authorities say families with missing relatives should contact the Minnesota BCA at 651-793-1118 and provide the person's name and date of birth.

They said advances in DNA testing are now able to give them information that may not have been available 30-plus years

Cali has been ID!!!!!

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - The body of a girl found in a New York cornfield has been identified 35 years later as a teen from Brooksville.

WHAM-TV says the body of a Jane Doe discovered in Livingston County near Rochester, N.Y., on Nov. 10, 1979, is that of Tammy Jo Alexander.

Alexander went missing from Brooksville in 1979. She was between the ages of 15 and 16.

The body was found in a field just off Route 20 in the rural town of Caledonia. Police said she had been shot in the back of the head.

Investigators at the time were unable to name a suspect in the case, and had difficulty tracking leads because they couldn't identify her body, WHAM-TV reports. As a result, she was identified only as "Jane Doe."

"This case is older than I am. I wasn't even born at the time, that's how far this dates back," said Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty.

Last November, Alexander's friend, who now lives in Arizona, called the Hernando County Sheriff's Office to report that Alexander had gone missing in the late 70s.

It turned out that Alexander's family had never reported her missing. There was no immediate word on why a missing person report was not filed.

"We are not really 100 percent sure why. A dysfunctional family or maybe she'd run away a few times before. We can't find any indications it was reported to law enforcement," said Sheriff Al Nienhuis.

Earlier this month, Hernando deputies were notified of a previously unidentified homicide victim in Livingston County, N.Y.

A test of Tammy's half-sister's DNA has confirmed Tammy as the victim, police said.

"She can be properly remembered and hopefully they'll be able to bring her killer to justice," Nienhuis concluded.

"To finally put a name to her, I can't even tell you what that means," Dougherty said.

Dougherty said his office will now work closely with the FBI to solve this murder.

ABC Action News reached out to Alexander's family and her friend for comment but did not immediately hear back.

need help identifying a UID

Posted by Ell (The Cabinet) at Apr 19 2014, 03:41 PM. 0 comments

This woman needs to be identified quickly. The man they have locked up for her murder is in prison dying of cancer and still claims innocence.. If she can be ID'd, it could help his case . I've added photos of the ring and the skirt and a clothing description.
the prosecutor then, 24 yrs ago believes in his innocence, in fact has presented case for Law enforcement. The Sheriff 's office has been willing to give a lie detector to Mr. O'neal but with pain meds and chemo it remains impossible.

California missing persons vigil, Saturday

Posted by Ell (The Cabinet) at Feb 20 2014, 11:07 PM. 0 comments

A local group dedicated to finding missing people is holding a vigil in Redding Saturday to keep hope alive that their cases will be solved.

“We’re just kind of...making a united front that we’re not going away, and we’re going to keep this information out there,” said Trudy Nickens, founder of Nor-Call Alliance for the Missing. “These families deserve justice.”

The vigil is at City Hall’s sculpture park at 777 East Cypress Avenue, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Nickens said the event is not just a way of keeping the public informed about the cases — it’s a way to show the public who the missing people really are beyond a face on a flyer.

“They’re not necessarily just a person on a picture,” Nickens said. “It kind of makes it a little more personal for people and so, you know, maybe it will create a little more concern...We have so many that are missing.”

The missing include Heather Cameron, James Olsen, Courtney “Cort” Jones-Botta and the decade-and-a-half-old case Tera Smith, all of whom will have family members or friends speak at Saturday’s event.

Other North State missing persons also will be spotlighted on Saturday.

Though it’s based in , Nickens said the group is expanding to serve families of the missing in Southern California, too.

“There’s such a huge need in our state as well,” she said.

Nickens said the group — which is registered with the Secretary of State’s Office and in the process of becoming a nonprofit — is also gathering donations to bring in a team of forensic canines from New Mexico to look for some of the missing people.

Their goal is to raise about $2,300, which would pay for the group’s airfare, lodging and other expenses related to coming to the North State.

For more information or to get involved with the group, call Nickens at 530-776-7174, or send an email to info@nor-calallianceforthemissing.org.

They also have an anonymous tip line at 530-776-8976
