Kings Kebabs on Russel st, under Altitude The kebabs are seriously the best thing i've ever eaten. $7 i think, a very satisfying meal in itself, esp after a night of clubbing |

well since im on a roll and im mega bored at work, here is a compilation of LATE NIGHT EATING: Chapellis 24hr - italian - chapel st: this joint is fucking QUALITY A-GRADE shit. im talking about real prawns in their marinara, real scallops, and REAL mussels. none of this pre-frozen shit, or super tiny prawns that you normally get in asian dishes. Personally prefer the marinara at this joint, and if your wanting something healthier, the chicken salad is pretty good. you get like 2 giant fillets of chicken. however, it costs a shitload. thats the only bad thing about this place. a pasta will cost you 22 dollars. but oh well, its late at night what can you do man? If your going with a bunch of friends, invest in the nachos, but ask for some sweet chilli sauce. it is the nuts at night. CHINA BAR 5am: no need for explanation, youve most likely already been dissapointed by their poor service, small servings, and horrible quality control. pass. STALACTITES 24hr: two words - lamb souvalaki. nothing else. however, to me its long gone. im sick of the dried up, humungous pieces of lamb. im sick of all the grease dripping down my arms. im sick of having to grab 50 tissues to wipe off all the sauce on my mouth. fuck that shit MOVE ON!!!! but nonetheless it will fill you up late at night especailly if you have been hitting the alcohol. NOODLE KINGDOM 4am: this place is fucking filthy man. sure, they make their noodles freshly, but fuck man, where is the taste??? the noodle taste like nothing man, just eating 'carbs', and not 'noodles'. only good thing about this joint is that they have adequate space for 10+ people and that its open until 4am in the morning. WARNING, DO NOT TRY THE DRINKS AT THIS PLACE. stick to your lipton peach ice tea. do not ever, ever, touch the soy bean milk, that shit taste like burnt crayons i swear. Supper Inn 2am: inferior to Ling Nam Ling Nam 3am: Superior to supper inn (on lil bourke st opposite n2c walkway, open till 3am everyday) This place is like a restaurant. order main dishes and share rice. its probably the best, but most expensive asian cusine in the city at this time of night. but fuck, its only another 2 dollars pretty much, just depends on what you order. someday suggests: salt and pepper chicken a plate of vegies very cleanly fried satay fatty beef vermicelli claypot with those long stringy mushrooms XO pippies with chinese donut soy sauce and oil chicken pork and thousand yr egg porridge (shits on supper inn imo) CHILLIPADI ~3am: this place is pretty expensive for what it is. roti chanai usually cost 20 cents in malaysia. here you have to pay at least 8 dollars for it haha. seriously, its fucking expensive zomg i cant get over it but why do i keep on coming back? because its malaysian food, and that is leet. the favourites here is the roti chanai with chicken curry and curry laksa. DO NOT GET THE TERIYAKI CHICKEN on rice. its like theres a water restriction level 7 on my fucking bowl of chicken and rice. it was so damned dry that i think it cut my throat as it slid down towards my stomache. and to think that the chef had recommended it, HAH. irony. and thus concludes my late night review SO FAR...more to come later including places like stokers, lincontro, etc |

cheap eats. momotaro on bridge road, best ramen in melbourne. 10 bucks for a tonkatsu ramen, also try the negi-miso ramen. Sofia's in Camberwell. massive servings i only rate this place for 1 dish and tahats the tagliatelle sofia. seafood pasta. its the shit. i will pay for anyone who can finish 2 large tagliatelle sofias in 1 hour. favourite place atm is laksa king, i just love laksa. Spicy Fish cafe in chinatown is pretty good for lunch but not for dinner. and cheap too. ITO is good for ramen and gyu tataki (rare beef with egg) and wafu steak. Ito is on bourke b/w exhibition and russel Noodle Kingdom--- terrible give it 2/10, no where near the standard of the noodle kingdom in box hill. terrible service, terrible food. Kaneda is really good, nice bentos, and 3pm-5pm u get cheap specials. Kaneda is two doors down opposite of desert house Easyway in the city for Milk Tea, i reccomend the Taro with pearls, or Peach green Tea, half sugar. easy way is on bourke next tot he asian cd store. near the corner of russell street Pho @ Chu Teh in Richmond, introduced to me by a true viet. its good. nice rare beef. Corner Church and Vicotria Ying Thai is pretty good on lygon, go there for pud thai, and the green curry. ECPOT in QV is a really nice place to eat. nice dinner combos with side dish and drink + main for 10 bucks. Lounge on Monday nights @ 6. for cheap good quality meals, minus the bug i found in my salad once. its on swanston b/w lonsdale and little burke. Nam Loong or Beijing Hot Pot Cafe if u want food poisoning. (im serious) i used to eat at nam loong all the time. dragonboat palace or dragon-boat or my favourite shark fin house for yumcha. Shark Fin House > dragonboat >westlake. oriental spoon on corner latrobe + elizebeth or Ume Hana on elizabeth b/w latrobe and franklin for korean. KIMCHI LUNCHBOX on glenferrie for good korean, and to hang out withh scotchies. Samurai on Glenferrie for good jap food and cheap too. Menya in Melb Central the one next to Ichipan and boost for fast takeway. i reccomned the sukiyaki beef or terayaki chicken. really tasty with lots of nice stuff like enoki mushrooms and sweet potato noodles. fkk this is making me hungry. |

man fuck you hubo you blew up all my good spots.. but ahem let me make some corrections to your recommendations ;p oriental spoon is good but its fucking expensive. id rather hit up kimchi grandma in boxhill during the weekday for the special lunch menu. sif pay 20 dollars for 1 bowl of rice and some bulgogi. samurai in glenferrie good for their green tea milkshakes and dinner combos. fucking quality. to be honest, laksa king is a bit overrated. but so far its the best joint in melbourne. get the kang kong as a sidedish between friends - everyone needs their greens. its like a spicy prawn mash sauce fried with vegies |

here is another good recommendation for eating quickly, and cheaply in the city: Chatterbox - malaysian/chinese food in TIVOLI ARCADE under 10 dollars for drink + dish. it is well known for its crispy chicken on rice. just a bowl of rice and a fillet of fried chicken but it is so crunchy man, its like coco pops i can hear the person opposite me munching down on it haha. |

ok since im so bored at work i thought id give everyone a headsup on the entrees at momotaro. the reason why this joint is so good in winter is because it really fills you up and you can have a warm belly full of steaming hot ramen. it seems relatively healthy as well as there is no excess oil blah blah blah. went there last night and ordered some spring rolls. now these arent quite like your viet/chinese springrolls. inside there was vermecelli and some vegetables and mushrooms. it was pretty damn tasty and different. also try the black squid ink gyoza. it predominantly taste like bamboo, and it is magic as soon as you bite it in half as the juice squirts into your mouth. another one that ive tried is the tofu steak. now this is really aimed at all the vegies out there as it is just tofu with a bit of fried vegies and loads of sauce. wouldnt really think its worth the 6 dollars they charge. if they charged 4.50 ok SOLD, but yeah 6 dollars is way too much. ok one bad thing about this place is the croquette. do not ever try the croquette because its pretty dry and tasteless. DO try the croquette at J-CAFE though - shits on momo taro croquette. the curry here is pretty hearty as they use a really distinct beef essence in the curry. also, the beef they include is a bit like....very stringy but also very soft, you know, that sort of brisket beef minus the layer of stomach lining shit. highly recommended. ps. i own this thread HAHA |

D-Myst, props Hawker's cafe... damn good hainese chicken rice. that's my cousin's uncle's chilli sauce and it is the bomb with steamed rice what about away from city? Taipan is Donnie yumcha territory, galangal is very very decent if slow malaysian food, and shira nui glenny is very good if pricey japanese. all worth it. ----- i am gonna open a restaurant just for you bernie can we start a thread on cooking? i dunno how |
