"For the world to dictate my fate."

Gwydion born into the House of the Dawn is the rightful ruler of the High Kingdom of Quartz. He is a proud, stern, yet loving monarch who puts the welfare of his people before all else, and sometimes even himself and his family. Constantly under pressure, and always stressed from trying to find a balance in his life Gwydion has been slipping into an intense state of manic depression. Partly due to his powerful inate connection to the spiritual realm that mirrors the Vale of Larimar. Like the Empress Athena, Gwydion has a powerful connection to magic, although very different from her own. Gwydion is gifted with prophetic visions, and the ability to delve into the very heart and souls of other living beings. To him, this is more of a curse than it is a gift, but it is a power that has allowed him to stay one step ahead in the chess game of life and politics.

"Home is where my heart is, yet I myself stand so far away I can not even feel my own pulse."

Gwydion grudgingly entered the arranged marriage that allowed him to take the throne during his eighteenth birthday. At the time, he was overwhelmed with the stress of his life, and in the beginning there had been many a rough conflicts within the home. Over time, with the gradual acceptance of his role, Gwydion's rebellious nature slowly dissolved, and he grew to love Athena. Together they have two children, daughters Alice and Alya; his unintenional favoritism leans towards the elder of the two, but despite this he is still prone to giving her just as much of a hard time as her mother on occasion. In truth, Gwydion sees in Alice a mirror reflection of his younger self, and relates to her feelings of being caged. At the same time however, he knows that her rebelious attitude can lead to unimaginable problems down the road. Despite the intense love that he has for his family, Gwydion is often torn between politics and remaing close to those he loves most. He often suffers for his people, and he suffers more because he knows his family is all the worse for it. Coupled with the dreams and visions of things to come and thing that have been, he often feels isolated because of this. Lately these dreams have grown more intense, yet more obscure. He is unsure of what the future may hold at this point, but he fears it greatly, and as he unintenionally pushes his own confident Athena further and further away he continues to fall deeper and deepr into a state of despair.

"I would rip out my own heart by hand just to see you burn."

For all his niceties and manners Gwydion holds a deep seated hatred for the Dark Elves of the Sphene Kingdom. His contempt was rooted in him since his early childhood, taught always to hate Sphene. His predjudice has no reason, ethical, or moral code behind it. Given the chance, he would simply raze Sphene to the ground, and see every drow to their deaths from the walls of the royal palace. HE can however, be civil in council with the drow of Sphene, but save only to keep from igniting a war that would ravage all of Larimar. Outside of such meetings, his hatred once again hold free reign.

As for the peoples of Ametrine and Paragon, Gwydion cares little of, yet has worked well with them in the past to secure steadfast alliances. If war should ever erupt, Gwydion has the power to bring the entire wrath of Larimar down upon Sphene, something that he would do with relish, and near sadistic glea.

If there ever was a flaw in Gwydion's character, it was one that his parents chose for him to bear...

"That which binds us."

Gwydion's greatest asset is without a doubt his power over the fates. Like his lover Athena, Gwydion is gifted with powerful arcane magic that has been pusling through his veins since the moment he was concieved. However, his abilities differ greatly from hers. Like her, he is immortal, and will forever withstand the currents of time. This is about where the similarities end. Gwydion is able to see into the river of fate, and past the vale of Larimar. He is prone to experience visions of things that have past, things that are, and things that will be to come. However, his foresight is limited so that he can only see things that have or will directly affect him in some way, even if not physically. Even though Gwydion may be aware of an event before it happens, he can not directly affect the end result that he himself played. For instance, if he were to die, without a doubt Gwydion would die. Even if it is not in the same manner specified in his visions. On the other hand, Gwydion is able to affect the destiny of others, and manipulate the outcome of a series of events so that the result forseen for that person in his vision would be altered. Though the ability to do so comes at a very heavy price for the Emperor. In some way, Gwydion must accept the natural laws of punishment for canceling the marked persons destiny. Whether it be he suffer the same result in their place, or in some other fashion is never certain. A possiblity in which these rules may be altered does however exist. The only way to change Gwydion's destined outcome, is if a willing outside influence aware of the prophecy takes his place. But this is a closely gaurded secret of the Emperor, and he witholds such information from even his wife for fear of the complications in may result in.

Along with this Gwydion is gifted with another type of magic in that he is able to absorb the thoughts and feelings of those around him. He can not force anybody to do something against their will, but he can link minds with another living creature, and share thoughts, feelings, and images from their past. If Gwydion concentrates he is capable of reaching out to someone he knows from a distance. Even though this seems relatively harmless, if Gwydion is not careful this can cause extreme harm to the person that he links his mind with, or he himself. Over time Gwydion has developed this ability, and now is in full control of his power.
