Henry Townshend [ Silent Hill 4 ]

Henry Townshend still had no idea what the hell this place was. Sure, he had wandered around for awhile, he had met some people. But that still didn't tell him where exactly this was and why all these people were showing up. It seemed like a pleasant, albeit vacant and run-down sort of place. It was quiet, peaceful.

He liked that.

The waves were lapping at the beach, crawling up to a point in the sand a few feet away from him. He had gone from being stuck in his apartment to this. A beach at night, with the water and the moon ahead of him and a silent town and a few glittering carnival rides behind him.

He had been fishing in his pockets earlier to see what he ended up having with him upon his arrival. The clothes on his back, a wallet -- and this.

A tourist brochure for Silent Hill.

Why? He wasn't sure. He remembered it being stashed on his desk in a file from when he visited to take pictures. How it had gotten into the back pocket of his jeans though, that was still a mystery.

He was absently reading it now, the full moon providing enough light to illuminate the paragraphs of vacation banter and appealing pictures within the propaganda.

Whatever this place was that he was in now, it sure as hell was better than that place.

The perimeter. Scour the perimeter.

Alex wasn't sure if this was an island or a land mass, but the tactics his squad always followed were still fresh in his mind, even though he had been in the hospital and back home since his time at war.

He hadn't been wandering long (and had met a few interesting folks on the way) but he found himself stopping at the sight of a man peering down to a brochure. The words on the front of it caused his feet to stop and his breath to hitch.

No. No.

He was nowhere near that shithole, right?

Please?

Alex had been looking for his brother and ended up in Silent Hill of all fucking places. He had been helping Wheeler get around the prison so they could find Elle, then Joshua, then get out of there -- but while picking up a discarded health drink from a medicine cabinet in a guard room, he ended up here.

No Wheeler, no Elle, no Joshua.

This place was entriely foreign to him. But that brochure. That let him know that this was no dream -- no paradise if that existed.

Was this man one of them?

"Excuse me." He waited for a beat. "Have you seen a kid around here? A little lanky boy with brown hair...?"

Couldn't hurt to ask.

He was almost startled at the voice. Almost. Henry had been through so much before he had arrived here that his nerves were pretty much made of steel. Plus, the man didn't have a gun pointed at him, like Henry had been used to, so that was a plus.

"No." He shook his head, dropping his hands to his sides and stared solemnly to the man. He knew what it like to be looking for someone. "I haven't. I'm sorry."

He had seen many people -- many things -- but no one who fit that description.

Something about this man looked familiar, but he couldn't put his finger on it. He wanted to ask him something about the person he was seeking, but he found he couldn't say anything.

Much like the other man, Alex found himself speechless after his question. He couldn't tear his eyes away from the pamphlet in the man's hands.

Why did he have that? And what exactly did this place have to do with that one?

Alex just wanted to find Josh. He wanted to find Josh, Elle and Wheeler. And he wanted to go home-- no, not home. He wanted to go away. Very far away.

He took a few more cautious steps forward and ended up just pointing to it. "That." It was all he could get out at first. "Are you from there?"

With an empty chuckle, Henry looked at the brochure for a moment before dropping his hands at his sides again. "No, no way."

He briefly remembered everything that had happened there -- and was still happening when he got pulled here -- and frowned slightly. Shaking his head, he looked back to the other man. "I live in Ashfield Heights, a few minutes away."

A sigh escaped his lips and one shoulder seemed to deliver a lazy shrug. "Well, lived... I haven't really found a way back yet."

Henry wondered if he really wanted to go back. He was worried about Eileen, of course (very worried, actually), but how was he supposed to go back now?

"How do you know the place?"

"I'm from Shepherd's Glen, also a few minutes away from there." Alex knew where Ashfield Heights was, and if the man lived there then he probably knew where Shepherd's Glen was as well. Everyone around Silent Hill knew that town and the surrounding area -- and also knew to generally steer clear of Silent Hill.

"I was attempting to look for a way back earlier... but I'm not sure I really want to find one. I've been looking for my brother cause I think something is wrong and I was cut off from my friends when I got pulled here... but..."

He trailed off, turning his head towards the sound of the water lapping at the shore. Something about it stirred a feeling in his mind, a memory perhaps... something he hadn't thought about in years. What it was exactly, he wasn't sure, but it unsettled him.

"I don't know what to do anymore."

Henry knew exactly how the other man felt. He wasn't quite sure what to do either. He knew he had to get back to his apartment somehow, back to Eileen, back to Ashfield Heights, back to Silent Hill. And while Eileen sounded like what he really wanted and needed to get back to... the other things he listed were things he really wasn't looking forward to, but things he knew he had to get through if he wanted to see here.

There was also Walter...

Shaking his head at the thought of the man and his insanity, he shoved the brochure in his pocket and turned and stuck his hand out. "I'm Henry Townshend."

He held his own hand out and grabbed Henry's, shaking it firmly. "Alex Shepherd. Nice to meet you, Henry."

For once he actually meant that when he said that. Alex had been through a world of hell and it was nice to be standing on a beach with a guy who didn't seem to be crazy, or seem to have some weird obsession with something like the people in his hometown. For once, things kind of seemed normal. Although, looking out at the water, Alex got that sinking feeling again... what was it about that noise?
