Mildmay'd been here, what, a week or two now, and fuck it if he didn't still think this whole thing sucked. He could care less about other worlds - 'course wouldn't you just know he had to show up here 'cause of a maze. He knew enough, 'specially after Nera, to peg that as something bad - or how he'd ended up here. Leave that for Felix and other hocuses. He was happy to stick with being your average old ex-catburgler/assassin and not understanding why these things happened. Like he said, leave that to his crazy hocus brother. He'd been here long enough to find the bar; better than stuff in the Lower City, too grimy for flash, which of course reminded him of Ginevra but whatever. Long enough that he thought Louie the bartender was getting better at understanding him when he talked, because between the Lower City accent and the scar ripping up the left half of his face and slurring his words that could get hard. Not that he talked much to begin with. Long enough to just fucking hate the stairs up to the hotel rooms because they weren't doing his leg any favors at all and damn it if his limp wasn't getting worse. And, of course, long enough to figure out that the obligation d’âme was still kicking in like it had every time he got too far away from Felix. It kind of felt like a tugging, saying, no, you ain't supposed to be here, Milly-Fox and while he'd gotten okay at ignoring most of the time he kept finding himself pressed up against doors or windows like he had to get out, get back, and go find Felix. Kind of like some sparrow beating itself to death against a window, except he probably looked even stupider about it. Past two or three days though, the populating seemed to have fucking exploded from where it had been with him Louie and Lex and now it was like every damn fool in the world had run into a mirror and ended up in this dump. Made for some interesting people watching, that was for sure. Hell, he'd even seen one or two red heads besides himself which was always a surprise. At the moment things were quiet enough - no dying people getting dragged through or nothing. Might as well just kinda sit back with his drink and see if anyone actually noticed the scarred cripple in the corner. |

Entering the bar for what must've been the billionth time, Sven ran his tongue over his teeth and took a quick glance around. He had been out searching for his friends (fuck, any of them, even Kenny at this point would've been welcome) and with no luck, decided to return to the bar for another beer. This was probably his sixth one in the past couple hours -- and one always tasted like another. At least he hadn't seen any of those stupid flowers around this place -- or those mutants. All he remembered was running from what used to be college students (now lovely, slimy freakass things) through the university after trying to crash the Delta Theta Gamma party. He had run into a bathroom and stopped his motion by throwing his hands against a mirror. And that led him here. Pros: no flowers, no mutants, no school, booze. Cons: no friends, no hockey, boring. Grabbing another beer and throwing a nod and a fist pump to Louie, Sven ambled around the establishment, eyeing the people he had never seen before. One in the corner kind of caught his eye and Sven managed to slide in a booth near the dude and stare at him. Sure, it was rude to stare, but Sven Hansen was a college-age kid with his bright yellow and red hockey team jacket on and a beer in his hand. He was good at being rude. |

If there was one thing Mildmay was damn used to, it was stares. His red hair had always gotten them in the Lower City where it was bad luck until Keeper'd made him start dying it black, a habit he'd only gotten out of a few years ago. And at the Mirador, hell, he was lucky if he wasn't getting stared at. Sure, first of all there was the obligation d’âme and that was heresy or some shit that freaked hocuses out, plus there was the nasty scar and limp and lets top it off with killing some prominent hocuses back in the day. And when they weren't staring at him they were staring at Felix, so all in all he was just damn used to it. His expressionless fact didn't change much as he returned the stare, waiting to see what was going to happen. When nothing much did he finally sighed softly then muttered, "Fuck me sideways 'till I cry, you gonna talk or you just want me to punch you in the face or somethin'?" He had to repeat the second bit of that sentence when it came out to slurred to make much of, the immobile left side of his face not able to do much but stay stuck in that scarred grimace from a slip up in a knife fight almost a septad ago. Figured the guy got the gist of it the scrond time around. |

"Talking sounds better," Sven answered instantly, taking a long swig of his beer. He was about to say something like, Can I fuck you sideways till you cry -- the first choice! -- but he figured for once he should start making good first impressions instead of asshole first impressions. "How long've you been here?" He wasn't thrown off at all by the man's appearance, in fact, it sort of intrigued him in a weird way. Sven wanted to know how it happened. It was probably in some sort of kickass fight. Sven loved kickass fights. His favorite movies were all martial arts movies -- some stoner movies too -- but mostly martial arts movies. Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, dude, those bros were his fucking heroes. |

Mildmay's face remained inscrutable as ever as he watched the kid, - aw, hell, that sounded stupid since he was probably only a couple years younger than he himself was. Whatever. - taking a sip of his own drink and trying to figure him out. He talked flash, so he probably wasn't going to understand him if he said he'd been here a decad or so. Luckily Felix had made him learn flash calendars for shit like this. Yeah, he generally refused to use them or any of the other damn grammar lessons just to piss his brother off, but sometimes shit like that came in handy. "Two weeks." He replied, speaking slow and clear this time 'cause he got sick of repeating himself fast and he figured people around here weren't used to the way he talked yet. "You?" |

Ahiru couldn't decide if she was confused or not. Yes, she had fallen through one of the mirrors in the ballet studio after tripping over the mop and bucket she was supposed to be using to clean and ended up in this strange place. On the other hand, lots of strange things happened in Kinkan town, and that hall of mirrors had looked like the sort of magical scenery that she would have found herself in after transforming into Tutu. So she could deal with it, and had explored her new surroundings with interest. After a few rounds on the merry-go-round first, of course. She'd found this place by following the bright lights that shone out of its windows and had wandered inside. She'd been a little starstruck by the pretty waitress and had gotten a glass of milk and some answers to her questions. She did not quite understand all this stuff about other worlds, but she didn't understand a lot of things sometimes. Taking a sip her her milk she looked around curiously; she was clearly the youngest person here at the moment, and while there were plenty of empty tables it seemed silly to sit alone and not meet people. So she wandered over to the two closest guys, trying not to trip and spill her drink before hopping up into the booth next to the one with the bright red and yellow shirt with a friendly smile for them both. "Hi. Can I sit with you?" |

"About the same, I s'pose. I've been spending most of my time here, got a room upstairs to crash in." Sven nodded and then took another sip of the beer, frowning at the bottle and the lack of beer it suddenly held. He was distracted from the alcohol when a little girl crawled into the booth next to him. He glanced at the man he had been speaking to momentarily before looking back down at the girl and pasting one of his big doofy grins on his face. "Sure thing, kid!" He reached over and set the empty beer bottle on the table then turned back to the kid and the man. He figured he should continue with his non-asshole first impression. "I'm Sven Hansen. Nice to meet you, dudes. Errr, guy and girl. You two. Whatever, you know what I mean." Dude. That word was like clockwork for him. |

Mildmay nodded, since there wasn't really much else to say to that. He was never much of a talker, and the only real thing he would have had to offer to the conversation about living conditions was that he hated the stairs like hell cane or no cane and yes lets all take a moment to awkwardly pity the cripple. He probably would have just gone back to his drink and let the conversation die completely but some kid bounced up before he could turn away. See what he meant about redheads everywhere here? What, was he back in the Gardens of Nephele or some stupid shit like that? "Mildmay." He said, the one simple gruff word about the most eloquent introduction they could expect to get from him. |

Ahiru gave Sven a delighted grin in return, clearly thrilled to have been allowed to sit with the odd pair. Making herself comfortable and swinging her legs absently back and forth where they dangled a few inches above the ground she took another gulp of her milk. "I'm Ahiru." She introduced herself cheerfully. "I'm from Kinkan town. Have you heard of it? Or are you from this world? Or maybe other different worlds. I never really thought about any of this before, did you? It's sort of like magic, isn't it? I think it would make a good story." She was babbling like a duck, she realized, cutting off whatever he next comment would have been and turning red. She could already imagine all the sarcastic little comments Fakier would have been making. And that thought made her wonder how she was going to get back home. She had to finish returning the pieces of Mytho's heart, before the raven blood destroyed the work she had already done. Would Fakier be able to do it alone? And what about Rue? Absently she wondered if transforming into Tutu would help her find a way out of here and back home. |

Sven eyed Mildmay as he spoke, nodding as he learned the man's name. If there was one thing Sven was good at besides beer pong, it was remembering names. Turning to look at the kid again, his eyes widened a bit as she rambled on. He listened to every word though and responded accordingly. "Kinkan Town? Nah, never heard of it, sadly. And I think it would make a good story, Ahiru. Maybe you should write it. Are you a good writer? Or maybe there's something else you're good at. What do you like to do for fun?" He casually slumped into the booth and tossed the kid a genuine smile. Sven always loved the fact that kids were so damn carefree and cheerful. Maybe that's why he never really grew up completely. Aaaand he hoped she didn't respond with her answer and the same question, cause he really didn't want to have to tell her, BEER PONG, BABES AND BUMMING AROUND, KID! |

Oh, lovely, no questions about his stupid name. He didn't much remember his mother, but he knew she'd gotten into one of the many trends that swept the Lower City, in this case naming kids some long stupid thing to protect them. Felix, being a couple years older, had missed out on that little treat and he'd just had to deal with being Mild-may-your-sufferings-be-at-the-hands-of-the-wicked until Keeper'd axed most of it off and chopped it down to Mildmay. Which was still stupid sounding. Still, could be worse. He knew a girl whose real name was Fly-from-fornication-and-sin which she'd shorted to Butterfly, a good name for the ironic trade she'd chosen, turning tricks in Pharoahlight. Funny old world, huh? And damn was that girl still talking? Shit. She was flash too, obviously. Every kid in the Lower City learned to keep quiet and stay alive. Didn't matter if you were a kept thief, a cade-skiff or some moll in Pharoahlight; you figured out fast running your mouth was gonna piss someone off. Felix would have snarked that the training had stuck around too long in Mildmay's case, but whatever. He didn't offer up any comment to the pointless discussion, just sat there taking it all in and absently working on his drink, scarred face impassive as always. |

Ahiru swung her feet back and forth some more, clearly still embarrassed about talking too much. Her expression brightened visibly though when Sven didn't roll his eyes at her. Instead he just asked more questions, actually sounding curious about her. "No, but I have a friend whose a good writer." Well he would be if he wasn't afraid of it. That was too bad. She still wished she could help him somehow. "I like ballet; I'm studying at the Kinkan Academy. I'm not very good though." She added, mumbling the last bit and shrugging a little. As Tutu she was a wonderful dancer, but as herself she was as clumsy and awkward as could be expected from a girl who was really a duck. "What about you? What's your home like?" She asked, beaming happily back up at Sven. "Yours, too." She added, giving Mildmay a smile, too. Maybe he was shy; he didn't talk much. Privately she wondered about the scar on his face; it made him look a little scary, but saying so would probably have hurt his feelings. |

"My home? Well, my current home -- if you could call it that -- is Fallcreek University." He eyed the bar momentarily, wondering if he should get up to get another drink, but then he told himself he could wait. "It's a big school, a college. Lot of people go there. Although, things around that place have been pretty weird lately." Sven settled in the booth, slouching even more than he had been before. Thinking about the place caused a pang of... homesickness...? -- in his chest. Is that what that was? Was he really so used to it that he missed it when he was gone? Maybe it was the people he was missing. And the partying. Of course, he had left it when it was overrun by whatever the shit those things were -- so maybe it was good that he was here. "I guess I'm just worried about my friends. I left them there when I came here." He shook his head quickly. "Not that I meant to come here. How'd you get here?" Sven kind of wished he had a way back, as fun as this place was to explore. He wanted to make sure his friends had gotten away from those things. |

Hell, both of them were at a school? Flash indeed. Not that Mildmay hadn't figured that much out already, or that he cared. Just unusual, that was all. At least in his experience; Mehitabel wouldn't have noticed. "From Mélusine." He replied, hoping to hell none of them worked for the Bastion as he added, "I work at the Mirador now." 'Work' might not have been the most accurate word for it, but the situation was damn complicated and it had been a year or two now but he still didn't feel like he lived there. He never would. But it wasn't safe from him to spend much time in the Lower City now either. He had enemies everywhere and it was better to be stuck in a place he hated with his Obligation d’âme to Felix for protection than in a place he felt comfortable with people who wanted to slip his throat everywhere. |

"That sounds like my school." Ahiru realized with another smile. "We have art and drama too, not just dance. There are lots of students there." Sue paused, catching the rather odd comment Sven had made and adding, "What do you mean weird? What's happening?" As for how she had gotten there, well, "Neko-sensei made me stay after class to clean up since I was late." Again. "I tripped over the mop and fell into the mirrors on the wall. For dancing, you know? Then I ended up here." She was about to add that it had seemed very familiar at first but caught herself. That would have been as good as admitting to being Princess Tutu outright! At least Mildmay had said said something this time. He really was very quiet, but the more she thought about it the less 'shy' seemed like the right way to describe him. It was more like he just didn't really want to say anything. "I've never heard of those places." She admitted, "Are they nice?" |
