Friday 1 July 2039 3:20 PM Ada wove effortlessly between the cars stalled in traffic, her hair streaming behind her. She was grinning because she was always happy to be going home. It wasn't that she hated her job, but it meant that she had to interact with people for the better part of every day. And there was also the uniform. She had never liked uniforms because, like most things that were meant to fit normal people, they never fit Ada properly. Even after magic the polo was still baggy and shapeless, and her manager had finally given up trying to find trousers that worked and let her wear her own. Added to that was the fact that she knew absolutely nothing about produce whatsoever. So she didn't hate her job, but it wasn't exactly a dream, either. She swerved out of the way of a bicyclist and narrowly avoided hitting the curb in front of Sorry's flat. After shouting uselessly after the biker, Ada tucked her longboard under her arm and headed upstairs. She was still singing when she unlocked the door and kicked her shoes off inside. "Almost got murdered by a bicyclist, can't wait for Charlie to get home: we can both get pissed, it's Friday!" |

Colin recognized the sound of the door opening and shutting and the sound of singing, but he couldn't make out any words because he was listening too intently to the sounds the printing press was making. He'd only just got it running and he didn't trust it. It would often whistle and the screech to a halt after the first minute. Baring that, he was good. So he listened. And thankfully, no whistle. He wiped his hand across his forehead, smearing ink there. It was all over his hands and knees where he'd started wiping it on his shorts and went too far. Now it was on his face, too. And now someone was home to see him covered in ink. Well, it'd give Sorry a laugh if nothing else. For once, the shirt he was wearing actually fit. Probably because he'd been fifteen the last time he wore it. He'd actually grown out of it. He was happy he'd kept it out of sentimentality because everything else was too big, now. "I finally got it running!" He called out to the living room, and then, satisfied that it would keep going, walked into the living room. It was not Sorry. Which, if he had been paying attention, he would have realized. Sorry saved singing for drinking. Or if there was already loud music playing. And, who knows, she could have been drinking at three in the afternoon, but he should have known better. This was not Sorry. This was Ada, Charlie's girlfriend. "Oh, um, hello," Colin greeted. "You are not Sorry," he stated the obvious. He pointed to the room behind him. "It's printing in there," he stated the obvious again. "So probably for the best if we stayed in here. Or you might end up looking like me, and that would be a real shame for anyone." |

She caught Attila when he leapt at her from behind the sofa. "Hello?" she called curiously in the direction of the bedroom, but the question was answered when Colin stepped into the living room. "Oh, ... nope, still Ada. I didn't know anyone was home, but hello." She rubbed the cat behind his ears and grinned, but decided she didn't know Colin well enough to make fun of his appearance. Which was too bad, really, because it would have been so, so easy. "Is it going to be a good issue?" |

He smiled at Ada. "Were you reading when I did that one page issue a few years back? It was only one page because that was all that was good." Colin chose quality over quantity any day of the week. He sat on the couch. "Sorry your room's got a printing press in it. I would move it, but it may never work again if I tried that." |

She nodded and sat down on the other end of the couch; she did remember, she'd been reading for a pretty long time. She hadn't meant to imply any of the issues had ever not been great, she was just trying to make conversation because it was Colin Beckett and he was her hero and they were trapped in the same room until whenever the printing was done. She shrugged, "I don't really mind. Charlie and I actually met because of Aparecium. We might never have even been friends, otherwise. So it seems kind of fitting to be living here, doesn't it?" She blushed, worried that she was saying too much, "I mean ... anyway. Sorry your printing room's got all of our stuff in it." Edited by Adelaide McCallen, Jul 13 2012, 11:31:04 PM.

"No! No, it's no bother," he waved a hand at her. He did not want to make her feel unwelcome in the slightest. "I'm glad Sorry's put you up. Charlie's a good bloke; I've known him since he was a kid, really." His ability at conversation had apparently declined sharply since his circumstances had forced him into hermithood. Sure, he had good company with Trent and the kids everyday. But he couldn't actually remember the last time he'd spoken to a new person, which is what he used to be doing all the time. "Just get off work, then?" Yep. He was bad at this. It was official. |

Charlie was a good bloke, the very best, in her extremely biased opinion. But she definitely didn't need to say that. Instead she nodded, "I'm glad, too. I'm not really sure where I would have gone, otherwise." Ada pulled her shirt away from her body and looked down at it. "Uniform tip you off?" she teased gently. "I'm working a very unglamorous day shift in the grocery department at Sainsbury's to finance my very glamorous nightlife. Writing very unglamorous articles for whoever will pay me," she explained. "It's kind of pathetic, actually." |

"No way! I started as an intern at Witch Weekly. Just imagine me there for a moment. Yeah," he smirked. "But I didn't know you wrote! I'd love to see your stuff," he encouraged. |

She made a show of closing her eyes to imagine him interning for Witch Weekly. "Those ladies probably loved you." She laughed and opened one eye, "Good point though, that might be much worse than sorting oranges. No self-respecting person reads that nonsense. Although I'll admit, I do enjoy their calendar." She blushed again and let Attila climb onto the back of the couch. "And I don't. I mean, I do, and you can, but it's nothing that good. It's just something to do for now." |

He laughed when she said no one read that nonsense. He did not tell her that his mother wrote for Witch Weekly (and that his wife occasionally read it (though he wasn't sure if PJ knew that he knew that)). He suspected that knowledge coupled with what she just said might embarrass her too much. He nodded when she said it was just something she did 'for know.' He wouldn't push it, then. "What do you hope to do after 'for now'?" |

She smiled, glad he didn't insist. She didn't really like people who knew her reading her stuff, it made her nervous. Charlie she allowed, but that was a special case. "I want to apply to the Healer-in-training program at St. Mungo's. Eventually. I took all the NEWTs, but, um, I can't actually afford it right now. And even if I could, the idea of more classes this soon after graduation makes me want to die a little." |

"Oh, good on you. Healing's very noble. I don't blame you about school, though; I never went back after Hogwarts. A year or so off for a bit of a break and save money seems like a fine idea." And then Sorry came home. "Hello, ladies," she greeted them both. She flopped onto the couch directly beside Colin. "Is that the sweet sound of the printing press I hear?" "You doubt my printing press repair skills?" "Oh, completely," Sorry smirked. "Yes, that's the press," Colin confirmed. "You did it all for him, didn't you Ada?" |

"I don't know how noble I am, there are just limited options when you want to work with potions," she explained, "Especially since I'm not really cut out for being an auror, and being a professor would be the absolute worst." Not intrinsically, but because it would mean being back at Hogwarts, "Because, I mean, my dad would be my boss." Ada started twisting her hair as soon as Sorry sat down. The whole 'never meet your hero' thing was totally true. Well, not totally, because Colin hadn't turned out to be insane. But being around Sorry was pretty much one disappointment after another; she reminded Ada of an adult-Zoe, but the wildness wasn't quite as interesting on someone who wasn't sixteen. "Naturally. You know me, expert fixer of mechanical things," she joked. She could hardly work a can-opener. |

Sorry was much more personable when she was around Colin. She just didn't do well with new people. It took her a long time to warm up. Sometimes she never did. "Well, good; he's a right mess. Can't even dress himself properly. I suspect having any sort of useful skill would be beyond him. Where are your trousers, honestly?" "...I didn't think anyone would be here." "Three people live here. And only one," she held up a single index finger for emphasis, "of us works regular hours." Colin smacked her finger back down into her fist. "Yes, yes; you're the cleverest person to ever live and never look unkempt in the slightest." Sorry laughed. "Too right." She stood up. "I'm having a drink. Ada, you want something?" "Oh, not me, then?" Colin mock pouted. "No, I only serve properly dressed people." Colin stuck is tongue out at her. |

Ada followed their banter, looking back and forth between them. It was strange to witness, she felt like a third wheel even though she knew that was ridiculous. She stopped twisting her hair, "Sure, thanks. Whatever you're having." She probably shouldn't have said yes, given that it was still very much afternoon, but if she was holding something she'd at least have something to do with her hands. "Speaking of regular hours, what do you two do all day?" she asked curiously. |

Colin scratched his left check with is right hand. "Ah, depends on the day. Lots of casual law breaking, though there's been a good deal less of that recently. I should probably fix that, but I can't find my wife if I'm in Azkaban, so I've been pretty inconspicuous lately." He didn't like it, but he liked PJ being gone much less: so there. "There's writing and recruiting and editing and fighting with the printing press. Watching my brother's kids. Very glamorous stuff," he used her word from earlier. "Lots of meetings. So many meetings. None today, as you might have guessed." He smiled. Sorry came back with three cold bottles; two in her right and one in her left. "Shandy," she told them, handing a bottle to Ada. "I got you one because of that pathetic look you gave me, tosser," she told Colin as she sat beside him and passed him a bottle. "Knew it would work," Colin smirked. |

She leaned forward to take the bottle from Sorry and took a sip right away. Attila put his paws on her shoulder to investigate, so she switched the bottle to her other hand, "Cut it out, this isn't for cats." Ada leaned into the corner of the couch and rested her drink on her leg. "Glamour all around," she teased. She wasn't sure what to say about his wife, so she just added, "Although law breaking is always fun. Personally, I try to casually break the law at least twice a week." |
