"No!" Okay, that sounded bad. "I mean... you don't... er... I don't especially want the first time you see me with my clothes off to be because I'm getting ready for bed," he clarified, blushing like crazy "but I'm not against the idea... of you seeing me. I mean, I'm all skin and bones. There's nothing to hide, really; especially not from you." He was eighteen years old and he truly, deliberately wanted her. And that was about as good as he was going to get at telling her so right now. He should have just kept snogging her earlier, but he'd been too giddy and the newness of everything, and unpacking really was for the best.

Seeing him blush just made her turn even redder, but then she remembered that she was supposed to be trying to be brave. She covered her face with her hands and peeked out at him from behind her fingers while she waited for the color to fade from her cheeks a little. It was a worthless endeavor, because the next thing she said was, "I'm not ... um, I'm not against seeing you ...either," and she about died. "But for tonight I'm just ... I'm going to go wait in the living room." That was possibly as brave as she could force herself to be.

"Yep, for the best," he agreed quickly as he nodded. He could feel his face positively burning with his blush. And it was only getting worse, because despite what she had said, Ada was decidedly still in the room. He thought he might die if he had to wait for her any longer, so he didn't. "I'll just hop off and brush my teeth first," he pushed off from the closet door and walked the short distance across the room. "If you want to get ready while I'm gone..." he opened the door to leave. "I'll knock before I come back in." He promised, and then escaped to the bathroom.

The cat lifted its head from the desk to stare at her judgmentally, then lept to the ground and followed Charlie out of the room. She rolled her eyes and leaned forward to close the door again. With some effort, she dragged her trunk out from where they'd stowed it under the hide-a-bed. There was only room for one of their trunks to actually sit out, and it made sense that it would be Charlie's since he actually had places to get ready to go to in the morning. That and hers was a little shorter; it just barely fit.

She dug around for a minute until she found a matching set of pajamas, which was a feat considering how poorly she'd packed. Everything was kind of thrown in, and it didn't help that there was an undetectable extension charm on the trunk. She was going to have to sort it later. She got dressed as quickly as possible in case Charlie came back, tossing her clothes in the hamper for once instead of on the floor and throwing on her pajamas. Ada looked at her reflection in the narrow mirror on the back on the closet door and sighed; she felt pretty sure that there was no other person alive pale enough to make that look like a color. She tugged the shorts a little lower on her hips because her height made all shorts look a little scandalous.

She heard a knock on the door, so she called out, "One second," quickly closed the closet and tried her best to look like she didn't care quite desperately about how she looked. It was not normal Ada behavior, but then, normal Ada was not around boys in her sleepwear. "Alright, you're fine," she continued, jamming her trunk back under the bed.

His bladder was relived, his face was scrubbed, his teeth were brushed: he could do this. He opened the door, took one look at Ada, and decided it was best to wait for her to come out of the room before he went back inside. Because those polka dots were going to kill him by removing all the blood from his head and diverting it elsewhere. "Yeah, so, whenever your ready." He was really glad he hadn't changed yet. And blushing probably more than he ever had ever, if that were possible.

Ready for what? She froze for a second, then realized what he actually meant and blushed, laughing quietly to herself. She needed to calm down, she didn't know why she was so on edge but it was making her feel stupid. She also wasn't quite sure why he was waiting outside, but she sidestepped him on her way out and gave him a half smile.

In the bathroom, she looked at herself in the mirror again, tilting her head to the side and squinting her eyes. She was decidedly not-terrible looking, which left his strange behavior a mystery, but she just shrugged at her reflection and set about her nighttime routine. Ada returned to the bedroom and knocked on the door, makeup removed, teeth minty fresh, and hair brushed.

He entered the room once she'd left it and quickly shut the door behind him. Why was he such a crazy person? He took a few long, slow breaths. And then he got ready for bed. Light blue jersey knit sleep shorts and a plain white t-shirt. He sat on the edge of the bed when he was done changing and looked around the room. Yeah, not bad. Tiny, but definitely theirs; at least for now. And he waited.

He felt ridiculous just sitting there waiting for her, but he also felt ridiculous doing anything else to 'pass the time' when there probably wouldn't be much more time to pass. Then she knocked on the door and he didn't have to worry about it anymore. "It's safe," he told her.

She opened the door wide enough to slip inside, then closed it behind her so Attila wouldn't sneak back in. There was definitely not room on the bed for two people and a cat, especially when that cat was not that fond of Charlie. Ada sat down next to him on the bed, close enough that their sides were touching. "Hey Charlie," she began quietly, not looking at him yet, "Thanks for not letting me stay with strangers."

She'd really thought she would be fine on her own, and she probably would have been. During the day, at least. Now that it was time to sleep, she found herself craving something familiar. She might not have her four-poster bed, but at least she had Charlie, and that seemed like a more than decent trade. If she had refused to stay with him, she would be alone right now. Ada was stubborn, and she rarely admitted to being wrong; that was as close as it was going to get.

He shook his head. "Over my dead body and all that," he tried to sound teasing, but blushed anyway and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. He would have been absolutely batty with worry if she had stayed with strangers.

He kissed her temple quickly and started to turn around, his arm sliding off her shoulders in the process. "Lets turn back these ridiculously over-large covers," he suggested with a smile that was half smirk.

She grinned when he blushed; he might have sounded like he was joking, but she knew better. He was, as she'd told him on more than one occasion, quite the accidental romantic.

Ada laughed and pulled back the covers. She smirked right back and teased, "You said you wanted to sleep with me, you can't just renege now that you know all my weird habits." She gave him a quick kiss, then crawled under the blankets.

"No reneging- I fully intend to share this bed-slash-floor with you," he teased back. He leaned over to the desk and picked up his wand for a brief second to turn off the light and then crawled in bed next to her, on his side facing her.

It was dark and his eyes hadn't adjusted but she was so close he could feel her. He reached out for her with the arm he wasn't laying on top of and found her waist. This was easier in the dark; his blushing would be invisible. He tugged gently on the fabric of her pajama top and said, "Your pajamas are really quite fetching." And, oh yeah, he blushed saying it. But it was so much easier to say in the dark. He flattened his hand against her back. "Who knew tiny little dots could be so useful?"

She smiled when she felt his hand on her back; she wondered if he could feel how hard her heart was beating. She couldn't move any closer without completely closing the gap between them, so she stayed where she was and ran her hand up his chest, then his neck so she could find his face. She pressed a lingering kiss to his lips in response to his compliment, then leaned her face away to say, "I'm glad you like them...." Maybe it was because he couldn't see her, or maybe it was because her resolution to be bolder was starting to work, but she only had to pause for a few seconds before adding, "...that was sort of the point." She blushed furiously at the admission, but then grinned because for once, he wouldn't be able to tell how embarrassed she was.

He returned her kiss with a smile on his lips, relieved that he had gotten such a response from her. He could give her compliments anytime if it was going to get him kissed. His blush came back full force when she said that him liking the pjs was the point, but HA! it wasn't as though she had anyway of knowing just how red he was. He might just have to keep the lights off all the time until he learned to blush at least half as much. It was really liberating. "You've got me all figured out." He ran his hand up her back and between her shoulders, snuggling just a little closer.

Her arm was getting in the way, and now that her eyes had adjusted to the darkness, she didn't need to hold on to his face in order to find it. She placed a light kiss on his jaw, then moved her hand to the middle of his back and inched closer to rest her forehead against his. "I think that one's just true of men in general, Charlie," she teased lightheartedly, "I've got a while to go before I'll have you all figured out. You're very complicated."

He resisted the urge to roll his eyes when she said he was complicated. Zoe had said something similar, once. He didn't agree. He shook his head lightly against hers. "Not really," he disagreed. He angled slightly and kissed her quickly on the lips so she wouldn't argue.

If he thought one kiss was going to stop her from arguing, he didn't have her figured out at all. "You are," she insisted. "Every time I learn something about you, I feel like there are a thousand things I'll never know," she explained, then quickly added, "Not because you're trying to hide from me. Just because ... well ... you've got an awful lot going on, Charlie, and your mind is an awfully, awfully large place. And I think maybe you just don't know that, yet. Maybe you're still figuring you out, too. Which is why, among other reasons, I like to be with you." She closed the last few inches between them finally and continued, "Because I want to be around when you finally understand how amazing you are."

No, this was worse. He shouldn't have said anything when she said he was complicated, because this was ten times worse than that. She had built up a vision of him in her head that just wasn't true. She was going to be disappointed. He felt worse instead of better, and what was worse was that there was nothing he could say to her that would change her mind, short of being nasty about it, and he didn't want to be nasty to her.

He tightened his arm around her when she pressed herself closer to him. He buried his face in the pillow and leaned his ear against her shoulder. He wanted to say something, but even the dark couldn't help him with that now.

She sighed softly and reached up to comb her fingers gently through his hair. "I'm not going to stop saying nice things about you just because you don't know how to accept a compliment," she added quietly, taking his silence as an invitation to keep talking. She couldn't understand why he thought so little of himself. She thought he was brilliant, and caring, and quite fit, really. She knew he wasn't perfect, but that didn't mean he wasn't wonderful. "It's just, I ... I just care about you. A lot. And I wish you could see yourself the way I do. But until you do, I'll keep reminding you. We said we were going to take care of each other, and that's what you do when you care."

He pushed his other arm underneath her so it could join his other holding her to him. He just wanted to keep holding her against him forever. He couldn't speak, but her words made his silence a terrible thing; he had to say something now. It was worse not to. He turned his face into her neck and inhaled deeply. "I care about you so much," he reciprocated her feelings, his voice quite. "Ada..." he started, but that was all he could say. He kissed her again, but there was nothing quick about it. He let one hand tangle in her hair and used the other to keep her pressed close. He opened his mouth against hers and hoped with all his might that she would just stay quiet and let him show her how amazing he thought she was, because he couldn't tell her with words.

There was no interrupting a kiss like that. And even if she could have summoned the will, she didn't have anything else to say. Which was probably for the best, considering she hadn't said anything strange yet; she could quit still while she was ahead. So she kissed him back. She arched towards him and gave his lower lip a gentle nip, keeping her hand in his hair and the other under the pillow her head was resting on. She almost grinned when she remembered (again) that there was no one to walk in on them here, but she fought against the urge so she wouldn't have to pull away.
