"So yeah," Sorry said as she opened the door to the guest room/office. "You've got to share with the printing press, but we only use that once a week anyway. The room's fucking tiny; we never made it bigger on account of not wanting to spook muggles, but that time has bloody well passed. So if you're good at transfiguration and you want to make it bigger, knock yourselves out. Same goes for the wall bed," she said as she pulled the twin bed down from the wall. "There's also the couch if you don't think you can make it work for both of you." She was trying to be a little sensitive to Charlie's awkwardness. Sensitive to it, but she didn't want to have to actual deal with it, so...

"...so I've got to run; Charlie can show you the rest." She stepped back out of the room and left them both there. "Make yourselves at home or whatever. Calma likes everyone, so she shouldn't bother your cat." Calma was Sorry's calico cat; she had been watching them from the sofa when they arrived.

Charlie sat down on the edge of the bed as he heard the apartment door close after her. He'd never done the kind of magic that gave things more space than they should have had. He'd be willing to learn, though. The room was tiny. Both of their trunks were still out in the living room. He wasn't sure they'd both fit, with the printing press to one side of the bed and a desk to the other. He took Ada's hand and gently tugged her toward him, hoping she'd sit next to him. He was still sort of processing the fact that he wasn't at Hogwarts or with any type of parent. He would be starting a real job on Monday. That was crazy to think about, too.

Ada let herself be pulled towards him, but at the last second she opted to sit on his lap instead of on the bed next to him. She looked around the room, toying with the hair at the nape of his neck. "We're going to hate each other by the time we find our own place," she announced with a smirk. She was only half-joking. It was a very small space to have to share with another person, especially if that other person was someone you'd never shared space with before. But it was an adventure, and that made everything seem exciting. Especially the wall bed, which was completely foreign to Ada; muggles came up with the strangest things.

He grinned when she sat on his lap and he let go of her hand and wrapped his arms around her waist. He didn't think Sorry would be back for a long while, but he kicked the door shut out of paranoia anyway. He shook his head at her declaration. "No, see, because I'll be gone all day working and you'll miss me so terribly you'll want to lock me in here with you and never let me out," he joked back. He would miss her terribly. He was used to seeing her most of they day- they'd had plenty of NEWT classes together.

She laughed, blushing a little, and objected, "What do you take me for, some kept woman?" She wrapped her other arm around his neck, too, and teased, "I have better things to do than sit around missing you all day." She did not actually, because she still hadn't found a real job. She'd taken his advice and sent out some sample work, and she'd been asked to write a few pieces, but it was all freelance which meant it wasn't a reliable paycheck. She knew she'd have to find something more stable, but she hoped that would be easier to do now that she could apply in person.

She really would miss him though. His being gone all day was one of the few things she was not excited about.

He shook his head when she asked if he thought she would be a kept woman. He hadn't meant to imply that she's just sit around waiting. Then she teased him about doing just that and he knew that she didn't think he'd thought that. "That's a relief, because I'm sure they'll keep me so busy at the Ministry that I won't have time to think about you at all." This joking was fun. It was easy right now. It was not talking about things they should have actually been talking about. But he was an adult now, and he could face things head on. He almost grumbled to himself at that thought.

Instead, he let his hands fall away from her and leaned back onto them and patted the mattress. "So about this bed..." he sounded like he was still teasing her. He rolled his eyes at himself and blushed. Couldn't just get one sentence out? "I mean, you can have it to yourself if you want... I could sleep on the sofa." They had never slept in a bed together. They'd fallen to sleep beside each other while they were studying in the kitchen, and had a nap or two cuddled together by the lake... but that wasn't the same.

He would really, really like to sleep with her, in more ways than one, but Hogwarts had not been a conducive environment for that, given that they were in separate houses. Zoe had stayed the night in his bed plenty of times. Ada wouldn't have been able to sneak into Ravenclaw tower without a good deal of planning, and he wouldn't have been able to make it to her room even with planning, because stairs to the girls dormitories were very untrusting of boys. "...or not." He added, making sure she knew he would be fine with either decision. They were both so skinny they could probably sleep together in the wall bed without even making it bigger.

"Oh, um ..." she blushed again, and would have given anything to have something to hide behind. Unfortunately, she was wearing a short sleeve shirt, so she didn't even have a sleeve to bite. She mentally rolled her eyes at herself for being so pathetic. She had no problem being blunt with anyone else, so she wasn't sure why it was so embarrassing to be frank with Charlie. It should have been easier, not harder. So she decided to try to pretend he was just another person, a person who didn't make her heart race every time she saw him. "I want you to sleep here with me." Her eyes widened slightly; she was surprised that she'd actually been able to say it without blushing or stuttering. She sounded much more confident than she usually did when it came to talking about anything remotely delicate. She smiled shyly and tucked her hair behind her ear, ruining the effect a little.

He wrapped his arms back around her and pulled her down to lay on the bed with him. "Okay, lets practice." He squeezed his eyes shut tight. It was so easy to go back to teasing with that out of the way. "What do you think, do we need to make it bigger? I don't think I'd have any trouble sleeping like this." They did both fit on the twin bed; it was a little ridiculous.

Ada laid her head down next to his and closed her eyes, too. It was lucky they were both so skinny; two average-sized people wouldn't have fit, at least not comfortably. Their feet might have been close to hanging off the end, but that didn't really bother her. She liked to be curled up when she slept anyway. When she fell asleep, at least. "There's no sense in making it bigger, I always wake up on the ground anyway," she explained. She opened one eye to grin at him. "I can't even sleep still," she added.

He opened his eyes and raised an eyebrow at her. "Well, that's just rubbish; falling out of bed all the time." He tightened his arms around her and pressed himself closer to her. "I stay put when I sleep. I'll hold you really tight so you can't fall off." Charlie did not move around in his sleep. In fact, he often woke up in the same position he started in.

"You can try ...." Ada broke out of his embrace suddenly and rolled over to pin his wrists to the bed, "But I'd probably just roll you off the side with me. I'm pretty strong for a girl." She smiled sweetly and leaned down to kiss his nose, releasing his wrists.

"Whatever, I can sleep through anything," he claimed, grinning at her. He'd had snorers and sleep talkers for roommates and they never bothered him. Falling out of bed he might notice, but he couldn't be sure. He pushed himself up a bit by his elbows to meet her lips with his in a real kiss.

"We'll see." She grinned right back; they'd find out if he was right soon enough. She put one arm down on the bed for support and leaned into the kiss, deepening it slowly. She pulled away slightly to grin down at him again, "I just realized ... we live here." Which in her mind logically translated to: the chances of Zoe, or anyone else, walking in on us snogging has decreased dramatically. And that was a welcome feeling.

Charlie grinned back up at her. "That is a fantastic realization." He wrapped his arms back around her and pulled her down on top of him and kissed her thoroughly. "I have never," he started to talk between kisses, "been so happy," he ran one hand up her back and into her her hair, "to be away from Hogwarts."

She shivered when he ran his hand up her back and couldn't help but smile every time he started talking. She would have agree, but she hadn't really ever been away from Hogwarts, at least not with any sense of permanence. She pulled back again. "We're like real people," she exclaimed, sounding excited at the prospect.

He laughed and buried his face in her hair and kissed her neck. "I dunno, I still feel part-way imaginary," he teased quietly against her ear. It was part-way true. He wasn't sure it was all sunk in, yet. But he felt pretty good about it, anyway.

She laughed and squirmed away when he whispered in her ear; he kept tickling her. "You know what I mean." She lowered herself so she could be closer to him. Her hair fell in a curtain around their faces. "Maybe it'll feel real tomorrow," she suggested, and then she kissed him again.

He kissed her back and then broke the kiss to smile up at her. "Maybe," he agreed. "We should unpack!" he suddenly thought. "Then the room will feel more like ours. And when we wake up tomorrow morning maybe we won't feel out of place."

"Yeah, safe," she agreed. She did still feel transient, it would be nice to start feeling at home. She kissed him one more time for good measure and stood up. "Do you think we can fit both our trunks in here?" she wondered out loud. She went into the living room without waiting for an answer and looked at their trunks, then back at the open door of their room. "I think so," she decided.

Her cat, a one year old silver Egyptian Mau, batted at the latch of his carrier, glaring at Ada as much as cats can glare. She rolled her eyes and let him out, "Not everything is about you, Attila." The cat took one look at the calico lounging on the sofa and leapt up to perch, out of reach, on Ada's shoulder.

10 pm.

So they'd hung up nice clothes in the tiny closet, stuck unframed photos to the walls, made both their trunks fit somehow, broke for a sort of late lunch, bought a king sized bedspread on the way back when Ada casually mentioned her tendency to hog covers, and then laughed when it pooled to the floor on both sides of the bed but decided it was perfect if Ada was just going to fall off anyway. Charlie pulled his Hogwarts robes back out of the closet and de-Hogwarts-ized them for work at the Ministry. He removed all the patches without a trace and he'd successfully made them all solid black or solid navy while Ada worked on more writing at the desk and Attila supervised. There was take out then, and he worked on his ties. He kept one just like it was out of nostalgia- he didn't have to wear it to work, anyway, though he wondered if people ever did. There was a lot of house pride, even after graduation. He'd do it if he saw other people doing it.

And then it wasn't all that late, but he was tired anyway. He hung his ties all back up and leaned against the closet door when he closed it. "I think I'm ready to go to sleep," he told Ada, a little surprised at himself. Probably it was just all the change that was making him tired.

Ada rubbed her eyes and set down her quill. She had a typewriter, but she didn't like using it for drafts; she really needed a computer of some kind if she was going to keep this up, but that was an investment she couldn't afford to make at the moment. She was normally a night owl, but right now she agreed with Charlie. She turned around in her chair so she could look at him, "Me too, I don't even know what I'm writing anymore." She'd had an especially long morning (which she still hadn't told Charlie about; she wasn't sure she wanted to), which she'd done a good job of forgetting all day until a few minutes ago. Now that she was thinking about it again, all she wanted to do was sleep.

She bit her lip; they hadn't quite talked about the logistics of sharing a room. Sleeping they had covered, but aside from that. "I can, um, leave ... so you can get ready," she offered, blushing.
