He so was not going to talk about Elliott Fix right now. He had volunteered. He knew the risks. They wouldn't be there long, anyway. But he was going to have to come back to that, because that was entirely unimportant compared to everything else that was being said right now. "I did tell you! Come on, PJ. What did I say when I asked you to marry me? I don't want to live my life without you! But you keep cutting me out of it! I'm like an afterthought or a step you skip over! I'm not asking you to stop helping people. I know you like doing it and it's important to you. Just call me before you go running off. Unless I'm physically with you, you're always already there by the time you even think to tell me. I don't need you to take care of my basic needs; you're right. I pretty well mastered that a long time ago. But I didn't marry you for that. I love you. I want to be with you. I want to be important to you. So badly. That's the way I need you."

“You are important, and I do love you, and I do want to spend time with you. More time, more calls, I got it." She looked out the window and back.

"Now can we just move forward? Because there’s really nothing that I can do about the last year and a half and unless Penny,” PJ’s eyes widened, because she wasn’t supposed to know that her sister worked in the time room. Colin knew, of course, because PJ did, but her classroom wasn’t the best place.

“There’s just really nothing that I can do to fix it, and I feel like shit, and I just want to get on with something else. No, wait, promise me something first.”

It was a both a terrible time and place for them to get into everything, but that tended to happen. One issue just brought a cascade of all the others. He nodded along stiffly at her request to 'just move forward.' Yes, fine, okay. Now wasn't the time. He kept nodding when she said there was nothing she could do to fix it. "No, I get it. It's fine. We-" but she cut him off and asked him to make a promise.

He stepped in close to her and took her hand in his. "I'm sorry. I didn't- I know everything's awful. I never wanted you to feel bad. Tell me what you want."

She looked him in the eyes, her expression as serious as possible. “Promise me that no matter how upset we are or stressed or what the other one did or said or what’s going on, no matter what, we never, ever, ever do this in front of Prufrock. Never. If I start something without thinking, you stop me, alright?”

He nodded and pulled her against his chest and wrapped his arms around her. He could feel the swell of her stomach pressed up against him and felt an overwhelming sense of guilt. "Don't you let me, either. I promise. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I love you. I love you both." He pressed his lips into her hair and kissed her head.

PJ put her arms around him and refused to let go. “We know you do, and we love you, and I’m sorry , too. But we’re married and stuff is going to come up and this sort of thing is going to happen. Today was just really hard. But we’ll be alright, because half of the time when we’re screaming or trying not to, we’re also telling the other one how much we love them at the same time. That has to be another ‘us’ thing. It’s as weird as anything. I’ve heard a lot of fighting, but never quite like we do it.”

Colin rubbed his right hand over PJ's back and kept his left arm tight around her shoulders. Was it really that weird? Colin had always sort of been prone to that. Get cross, instantly regret it, and apologize with assurances of love. He didn't stop loving just because he was upset, and letting his anger blaze over that love always made him feel awful, so he generally took quick steps to remedy it. "We'll be alright," he agreed with her. "Lets finish up here. What do you need me to do?" he asked, but still didn't let go.

“Actually…” Actually, PJ had a very fine tuned and efficient routine that was darn near perfect, at least in her opinion. She had been doing this for years, and help would only slow her down. Colin couldn’t not do anything, though. He’d been very clear about that. “Why don’t you hang Jane back up on the wall before she notices that I took her down. And Helga and Harriett could probably use some clean water. The kids just fed them: don’t let them tell you otherwise,” she warned of the class Puffskeins before letting him go.

Once she had a free hand, she pulled her wand out of her waistband and separated all of the Legos in what looked like a miniature explosion. Just as they would have fallen to the ground, they got sucked back in and fell neatly into their container. She sent it floating back to the shelf before heading to her desk to mess with some papers.
