"Bwah!" Colin exclaimed as he opened the door to exit his flat and nearly ran into someone.

"Oh-woah!" said Catherine, at exactly the same time, her hand lifted, clearly about to knock. "Hi. Sorry," she recovered sheepishly, lowering her hand.

"Sorry. Hello," Colin waved at his niece. "I was just leaving," he pointed down the hall as if illustrating his point was somehow necessary. He must have realized it wasn't, took his hand back, and stepped aside. "Sorry. Er, come in I guess." He was not expecting to see her.

"I won't be long," she promised as she stepped inside. "I've already tried to come by twice this week. You haven't been home."

Colin shut the door behind her and ran his right hand through the back of his hair. "Yeah... I mostly just work here now," he admitted. He couldn't remember the last time he'd even slept here. He took his hand out of his hair and put it on her shoulder instead, then leaned down and kissed her cheek. "It's good to see you," he smiled at her and directed her towards the couch.

Catherine smiled back at him and shook her head. "Elizabeth and dad were shouting about you," she told him without preamble.

He dropped her shoulder and shrugged. "What can I say? I'm a controversial guy."

She rolled her eyes. "Please." She sat on the couch. "Dad doesn't know I'm here."

"Obviously." He rolled his eyes back at her.

"I'm of age; he can't stop me."

"You don't have to convince me."

"Look, I just want you to know that I'm not like them."

"I know." He sat down in the easy chair and looked at her.

"Well, good. I just wanted to be sure you knew." She told him curtly and crossed her arms.

"Well, I'm glad we've cleared this up then," Colin raised his eyebrows and started to stand.

"Uncle Colin!" Catherine practically scolded. "What can I do? How can I help?"

He remained sitting. "I'm not going to make you choose between your family and-"

"You're not making me do anything," she cut him off. "This is my choice! The world is changing. I'm not just going to sit by and watch."

He smiled at her. "That's the spirit." He stood up and held his hand out to her. "Are you expected anywhere else tonight?"

She shook her head and took his hand. "I'm not."

"Good," he said, pulling her up from the couch. "Then come with me. Your foray into changing the world starts tonight," he said smirking, then dropped her hand. "Your grandfather's going to be so proud."
