23 October 2037 at 3:30pm (dismissal time) It had been another interesting day. Caitlyn enjoyed teaching the younger kids and they amused her so much. She taught the younger ones some very basic rules about charms and the older ones tended to get theories about charms and sometimes history lessons about them. Some of them, no matter what she did though, just didn't seem interested in what she had to say. She was used to it by now though. A lot of the kids who passed through Forsyth did so because their parents had extra money to spend that some families did not. Some seemed to see it as nothing more than a cheap nanny service. Not all of the kids would eventually go on to Hogwarts either. Some scattered around the world for the rest of their education. Fine by her, really. It was nearing Halloween. Halloween was one of the biggest festivals at the little primary school. Kids came dressed up in traditional muggle costumes, usually encompassing everything but a witch or wizard. The professors were not exempt from the excitement either. Caitlyn always dressed up as something and this year she was planning on coming to school dressed as an elegant Renaissance queen. Her charms skills being rather good, she was adept at manipulating various costume pieces. Her transfiguration wasn't bad either and she had already manipulated an older dress into an extravagant white lace gown meant to go under the main dress. As the bell had sounded through the grounds, Caitlyn escorted her last class outside to the apparition area. Anyone picking up their child had to apparate in and out of that area because the surrounding areas were charmed to disallow apparating. No one flew in or out and floo powder was too much of a hassle. Parents had to pick up their spawn only by apparating. As she lined up the group of 7 and 8 year olds, waiting for parents to arrive, she observed the group. The girls mostly stayed near the girls and the boys near their own kind. It amused her because most of them were still in the 'the opposite sex has fatal cooties' stage. The girls giggled at each other, talking about someone's birthday party coming soon and what their costumes were. Before long, the parents began arriving and excited little children bounced towards their parents and poofed away from school for the day. There was one parent she was hoping to have a word with, she was just waiting for them to apparate in... (Feel free to jump in and be that parent!) |

I'm running late at work. Would you please do me the favor of picking up Audrey at Forsyth? She gets out at 3:30. Her teachers name is Miss Tuttle. The ministry owl dropped the quickly scrawled note on Jane's apartment desk. She'd fallen asleep with her head on a pile of ministry documents. She wasn't entirely sure what she'd expected when taking on the project of getting a reservation established in Great Britain, but it certainly was less exciting then actually working on a reservation itself. She missed the dragons and missed being able to do whatever she pleased. She was trusted where she'd worked, as long as you got the job done everything was alright. But here she felt as though those haughty wizards and witches who worked at the ministry looked down on her, wanting her to do everything their way. Plus, she felt as though every step she took forward someone, somewhere in the ministry found a way to make her take two more back. She'd complained to her brother about it, but he said that she was just being dramatic and told her that these things take time. The owl got bored and screeched in Jane's ear, causing her to nearly fall of her chair in alarm. "What do you want you horrible thing?" Jane snapped at the impatient bird. It ruffled it's feathers and looked indignant, as if to say that it was working hard while she was sleeping. "Fine, fine. What did you bring me?" It held out the note. She quickly read it and smiled. "Yes, something to get me out of here. I swear, I'm going to get cabin fever." She wrote her answer on the back of her brothers note and shooed the owl out the window. Jane checked her watch, forty-five minutes before she had to pick up Audrey. She looked down at the ministry papers. No, she really didn't want to spend the next forty-five minutes reading them. Instead, she took a shower and changed into jeans, a t-shirt and a rather worn old, emerald green Kenmare Kestrels sweater. It took her a moment to remember exactly what Forsyth looked like. She didn't want to apparate too quickly and run into a problem. A few seconds later, she appeared with a quiet "pop" on the Forsyth grounds. It took her a second to get her bearings, as she didn't know the area well and before she had time to look around she heard an excited, "Auntie Jane!" and was promptly grabbed around the knees by her seven year old niece. "Hi there Audrey." She said, smiling down at the little girl. Jane looked around for the teacher, not sure if she needed to check Audrey out in some way as she wasn't actually the parent. She walked over to the woman who was undoubtedly the teacher. "Hi, are you Miss Tuttle?" She asked, thankful that her brother had had the presence of mind to add the name of Audrey's teacher, saving her the awkwardness of not knowing. "I'm Jane Lester, Audrey's aunt. Thomas is running late at work today." "Auntie Jane, can we shoot Filibusters off the roof again?" "That's supposed to be a secret, remember, Audrey?" Jane said quickly, hoping that Miss Tuttle wasn't the kind of teacher who would tell Audrey's parents. |

As yet another adult apparated into the area, she noticed that Audrey, the one whom she wanted to speak to her parents about, ran over and clung to an unfamiliar woman. Caitlyn knew what Audrey's parents looked like and this new woman looked nothing like either one of them. Luckily, the 7-year-old answered her curiosity quickly by shouting out the name and familial affiliation of this woman. An aunt, eh? Caitlyn was about to approach the spawn retriever when the woman came over to her first. "Yes, I am." She smiled politely at 'Auntie Jane'. But her eyes grew wide when Audrey asked about shooting filibusters off the roof... again. Caitlyn shook her head slightly, not wanting to know any further details really. Especially when Jane seemed a bit alarmed that Audrey had just said all that out loud. "Can I have a word with you Miss Jane?" She asked of the woman politely. "I was hoping to speak with Audrey's parents but since you are her aunt, I suppose I can trust you'll pass on the message?" She didn't really wait for a response. Caitlyn smiled and knelt down at Audrey's level, speaking to the child. "Hey darlin', why don't you go see if Madison will let you see her new chocolate frog cards. I heard someone say she got a Harry Potter card today." Smiling as the child ran off to chatter with some other girls, Caitlyn stood back up. "Well, it's nothing serious. I was just a little concerned since Audrey is the only one in my class that has not shown any magical abilities yet. She could be a late bloomer but she is almost 8 and that's typically regarded as the threshold these days. I was wondering if her parents were interested in any, well, tutoring of some kind. Audrey is one of the few who seems interested in learning magic at this age and I'd hate to see her be cast aside because her magic hasn't shown yet." Caitlyn knew that this could actually be a very serious thing. She'd seen a kid basically abandoned in her first year of teaching for not showing any magical skill. "I'm not sure what exactly I could do for her, but I could try. Some of her other professors have agreed that we could set up some kind of regimen for her. I don't want to get into some of the old tactics of trying to coax magic out. I'm sure you've heard of families who'd drop their kids from the roof, hoping they'd save themselves magically. And I definitely don't want her to be labeled as a squib already. Even if she showed magic, that stigma could stay with her." Caitlyn, with her rough exterior and abrasive personality, though seemingly not, she really did care deeply for her students. Afterall, she'd been dropped out of the window when she was eight. She ended up in St. Mungo's for a week with broken bones and a concussion. Her magic showed up in full force three months later without any dangerous tactics. I can edit ANY of the details. I took some liberties in what Caitlyn knows about Audrey but let me know if you need me to change anything!! |
