27 August 2037 at 1:00pm School was just about to start up again. Braydon wasn't ready but then again, he never really was. He wasn't exactly organized. It was a miracle he'd gotten the start of term letters and supply lists out on time. Well, only a day late or so. But only a day. Adrienna had taken the day to go see her mother. Her mom was a little ill so she wanted to go take care of her. That left Braydon with Adelaide. He wanted to get out of the castle so he decided to go to Hogsmeade and tug his daughter along with him. It was brighter than the castle and he knew that once school started again, he'd be tied to the castle for about the next nine months. Not that he didn't love his job but once school was in session, his job was twenty-four/seven. It could be exhausting, to say the least. Besides, he wanted a chance to spend some time with his daughter. He was so tempted to try and buy her everything under the sun. But he knew that wasn't what she wanted of him. She just wanted him. It was so hard for him to be that for her but he was going to try. He knew she would soon be of age and he was so afraid he was going to lose her forever if he didn't hold on tight now. He loved her so much and was so afraid to fail in her eyes. He already felt like an ass sometimes for having deserted her when she was just a baby. True, he was detained against his will but no matter the details, he often felt like he should have been able to do something because he was her daddy and that's what daddies do. He missed cuddling his little girl. He missed hugging her and sticky candy kisses. Sticky hands and crayons on the wall. Bubble bath time and snuggle under the covers when a thunderstorm came. Swinging her high in the air and tossing her, catching her and even hovering her with a spell. All to hear that magical little giggle. Midnight fevers and worrying that she was getting enough fluid and rest and wondering what else you could do. Listening to her heart beat as she slept soundly. Listening to her when she was still in her mother's womb. Watching her come into the world, wet and bloody, really purple and a funny shaped head. But right then he knew she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He looked at his sixteen year old daughter now. He missed so much and he regretted it every day. He wished they could go back and he'd watch her grow up. Talk in complete sentences, running around barefoot in the grass, building snowmen in the winter, snowball fights and her first sign of magical ability. No matter how much all of it hurt to think of, he knew that no amount of wishing would change anything now. He had to hold on tight now before she was gone forever. |
