Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Tuition: 900 galleons per student per year Overall Tuition: 6,300 galleons for 7 years of Hogwarts schooling What about families with multiple students enrolled at once? Well, for each additional student, 100 galleons are taken from tuition costs. If there are 4 or more siblings enrolled at once, all from the fourth student and onwards have free tuition unless they can afford it and choose to pay for tuition. What about really poor families? There is money available to families who need it. Since Hogwarts really has no overhead costs (they don't have to pay any bills like electricity, water, etc. They don't even have to buy food.) Tuition mostly goes towards salaries. Also, alumni often make donations and Hogwarts also recieves some tax monies from the Ministry (regretably on their part). If there is excess money after all salaries are paid, this money is set back for when it is needed again. Professors can also use up to 2,500 galleons a year on new supplies, books or room equipment. What about students without families? (orphans) Again, funds from the school itself are used to help these students out. They don't have to pay tuition since there is no way they can pay it themselves. The school also gives them a subsidy to use towards school-related equipment each year. Some of these students are even permitted to stay in the castle over the summer, if they have nowhere else to go. Hogwarts Costs in a Year: One headmaster salary - 17,000 galleons Four house head salaries - 11,000 galleons x4 Nine resident professor salaries - 9,000 galleons x9 One nursing salary - 9,000 galleons One librarian salary - 7,000 galleons One salary for Dobby the House Elf - 730 galleons Nursing Supplies alotment: 4,500 Librarian alotment for books: 2,500 Fourteen professor alotments: 2,500 x14 Total output: 200,730 galleons per year Tax monies from the Ministry: 40,000 galleons/year Alumni/benefactor donations: 10,000 galleons/year Student tuitions; 900 galleons x175 (assumed that 25+ students attend free or reduced cost) Income: 27,500 galleons per year Output: 200,730 galleons per year Leftover: 6,770 galleons per year The leftover money is put into Gringott's for safekeeping and poor student funds. Forsyth Primary Tuition Tuition per year: 500 galleons Students may attend for a maximum of six years. Six years' tuition: 3,000 galleons What about multiple students? Families with multiple students receive a discount on tuition. Seventy-five galleons per extra student, up to four total students. If the family has at least one older student attending Hogwarts, there is a fifteen percent reduction of total Forsyth tuition costs for current students. What about poor families? Forsyth is an entirely optional school. Primary school is not required for young witches and wizards. Students attend Forsyth because their parents want to give them a head start on their educations. Therefore, there are no 'poor student' discounts or scholarships. Students who excel through their years may receive a tuition discount, however. Edited by Braydon McCallen, Oct 20 2009, 09:46:17 PM.
