Questions for DT150 & HD650; Cheers...

Hi guys,

I've tried the AKG 701, Senn HD650 and the DT150. I actually love the sound of the K701 but had the same problems with the DT770,880,990. The headphone doesnt fit perfectly to my head.

I dont really like the grado ear cushons as they dont cover the entire ear (personal preference!).

I got one questions for those who own the DT150 (which fit nicely.). Due to the increased clarity/brightness of the DT150 (i love them!), do you get fatigued after listening to them for long periods (e.g. 8hrs straight)?

I'm still contemplating as to whether i'm going to buy the DT150 or the HD650 (BIG price difference!)

Cheers and thanks a million...

PS: The Zu Mobius cables are also available here so any personal comments bout them with the HD650? Read through head-fi and i thought some local opinion would be nice.

I have both the DT150 and the HD650 with Zu Mobius.

Yes, the DT150 get tiring for long listening cuz of it's slight presence boost. But then it's good for analytical listening. Can be too dry for leisure listening.

The HD650 is a very good pair indeed. The Zu Mobius is compulsory. I have a hard time differentiating a HD650+Zu and a K701. HD650 should be paired with a bright amp or source even with the Zu to overcome the infamous "veil"

I'd buy both if I were you ... Reality: ask yourself what you need. Do you need the analytical sound? Or you're using it more for leisure?

I use it for leisure listening. Dont think i'll evr need to listen analytically. As for the price, the HD650+Zu Mobius comes to approx 1k (ball park figure), any other headphones within this region and is better than the HD650 with the Zu cables?

I'd suggest K701 then. But you need to run it in for say 200 hours at least.

Other than that can try DT880, but it has a bit less bottom end.

That being said, my current favourite is Stax SR-3030 hooked up to a tube pre-amp. You can find it used for less than $1k (not including the pre-amp). I also use a Meier Cross-1 crossfeed that also allows me to tweak the EQ slightly.

He already said that the 701 and 880 was too uncomfortable for his head.
So he's deciding between the 650 and 150

Yup... was thinkin about the MS Pro or the RS1/2 as its about the same range as the HD650 with the Zu Mobius cables. What do you guys think about the comparison above? Couldnt seem to find a comparison btw them.

"HD650 + Zu Mobius" VS "Allesandro MS Pro" VS "Grado RS1 / RS2"

Cheers

if willing to spend around 1k, i will personally recommend the audio-technica w5000.

Acutually audio-technica has quite a good range of headphones. And one more reason is for audio-technica, the price is cheapest in SG and HK. The local prices are sometimes even cheaper than what you can get online. However AKG and Senn are abit pricey here....

Casual listening, i wouldn't recommend the DT150 all though it's a good all-rounder (supposed to be studio monitors). I cannot take 15 minutes straight listening to it, due to its "clamping effect" and weight.Grado/Alessendro would be good for comfort.

You can try out audio-technica cans at stereo electronics, fourth floor at causeway point.

They have a wide range of audio-technica cans and i just bought a limited edition ath-ad950ltd last week.

The shop assistants are helpful, once they bring you the cans, they leave you alone to test. I was standing there for almost two hours and they did not come and disturb me...

Jaben does have audio-technica cans. Uncle Wilson would gladly let you try them.

Let me know if you want to audition the HD650's. I would personally be very interested in trying out the Zu (or other) cables.

Actually, i've tried the HD650s for a very short moment. I also asked if i could audition the Zu cables but they say they dont allow you to audition the cables with the HD650.

I'll try Jaben and SE.

Thanks for all the help... Any other recommended headphones ard the price range of the HD650?

look around for the Senn HD600. some find it better sounding than HD650. cheaper too. Stereo, Jaben or Hung might have, if not, they can order from Senn SG for you.

I don't think Jaben carries the HD Sennheiser range. You could always ask though.
