hmm what amp are you using with the mylar one? apparently, i realised that Tc-20s and the mylar one when paired up wth the Xtra X1 amp or perhaps the C&C too break down easily. That my personal observation from friends whose Tc-20 break down numerous times and are using the Xtra X1 amp. My mylar one seems to be "dying" too.. but oh well , porta is coming to town!

Well, since others have posted their problems, I'll fess up. The left driver on mine cut out less than 5 minutes after I put them on. Straight from my ax, no amp. No warning, one second the sound was there, gone the next. |

Mine is still alive kicking after 50 hours of continuous playing. I ran it directly from my soundcard output, I wonder will that spoil the drivers? |

I didn't know that the Mylar Ones had such a low life span? Is this true with budget IEMs? I got myself a pair last week and they've been working fine. |

i don't agree with the views that the TC20s and MylarOnes died due to them being paired with the XTRA X-1. i bought the TC20 and MylarOne for my brother and classmate, and both are just normal ipod users, and yet both experienced dying TC20s and Mylars too |

Durability is still pretty much a cloudy issue. Not sure if it's the loud volumes that's killing the driver or just bad design on the engineer's part. Korean QC of the MylarOne doesn't seem to help much. My pair had unbalanced volume. However it has been usable for the past 3 days. I'm using my Ipod shuffle now to drive it. No amp in between. At the end of the day, you have to convince yourself that everything has drawbacks. Why Crossroads (or even OVC) can produce nice sounding products at such low prices, you go think about it (after having heard about numerous QC problems). |

Curios to know about the quality i switch my earphones on for a straight 30 hours and its still running, at normal listening volume. I guess whether the earphones go bust also depends on what vol level and how u use it. Even a speaker can go busted at some disturbing volume level. Not too bad its running in and its still running. . . use them with confidence |

The MylarOne is simply amazing... I have been listening to it since I got it. It's been about 5 days now maybe. I just tried on my CK7s (my previous primary IEM), and I was surprised at how awful it sounded. The MylarOne is just right. Balanced across the spectrum with details aplenty. I like it so much, I wonder if recabling it is possible. But I guess not, the drivers are so delicate.

i was guessing that the mylar one and the TC20 both using super duper thin voice coil, hence they can produce better sound when feed with lower current, and it's more sensitive to drive power. and the draw back is, these extremely thin copper string is easily heat up. and might melt at certain point. this is a limitation of physical properties of cooper i guess. except if they come out with new and cheap material for voice coil, this couldn't be avoid. this same problems goes with Beyerdynamic DT880 (as compare to AKG phone) |

Care to elaborate on this? On the contrary to what you said above, I've only heard of AKGs getting burnt and not Beyers. Beyerdynamics are the one of the most robust, if not the most well built headphones I have ever come across. As for the coils, there were instances when I forgot to turn down the volume on my amp and they almost sounded like speakers on the desk for a few moments and they were still in perfect sounding afters. Just do a search on head-fi and you can easily find AKG701 horror stories(as in literally disintegrating into pieces) instead of Beyers, which even then have user replaceable parts. I also doubt that the copper coils in the Mylars/TC20s can actually "melt", unless you pump in something like 2A of current. |

Hi I too owned the mylarOne IEM but after reading all the horrible issue about the earphone getting burst by amplification, i am concerned about using my AUDIOLAB 8000A to test out the MylarOne. Guess better stick to my decent samsung YPT-55 to drive the can. Marc |

My MylarOne has clocked about 80 hours out of a Meizu M6/ESI Juli@ ----> C&C Box and it's running fine. There's no reason why an amp would bust the earphones but a DAP would no. It's not as if the amp outputs a higher current. If both the amp and DAP were at the same volumes, the voltage/current should be the same. Call me crazy, but I think the MylarOne owns my friend's SR225s

^ That would really depend on how you use it. The MylarOne would probably beat the SR225 by a huge margin if it were for portable use. Otherwise, it's the SR225 over the MylarOne for me, at least. As for a bit of off-topic, chaych, that looks like a rather nasty track accident in your avatar. Really, look left, right and left again before crossing the track (or road).

Actually for me at home, it's still the MylarOne over the SR225 for me. I just prefer the sound signature of the MylarOne. Of course all these is IMHO... Off-topic: Regarding the nasty track accident, I have seen it used as an avatar on other forums before, but I would really love to view the whole video.

Have you ever wondered why these "regular ipod users" keep getting spoilt earphones? If they treat them like they do with regular ibuds, I am not surprised that these delicate stuff can crap out all that easily. by the way has apple fixed the problem of the metal backing of the case "shorting" the earphones? That might be another possiblilty... |

i have two friend with DT880, which the driver impedance of one side suddenly increase to >1500 ohm. and sound terribly weak. after send it back, they were told that the voice coil is slightly melt and become thinner in some part. hence the impedance is increase dramatically. and i had search this over china website, which also found several with similar problems. but it's just several cases. and the technical report told them the DT880 voice coil is about 1/3 size of other headphone. hence it sound more refine, and might due to some factory defect, easily melt. |
