I've some spare cash on me these days and I can't wait to spend it on something worthwhile :P. Now I'm a newbie in this audiophile business and currently own a portable rig that consists of UM2s and a Xin Supermini IV. And it's been a month since I've been hooked on it (2 for the UM2s). So I've a choice to make to whether to go for customs for the UM2 or get myself a pair of CANs (i've never owned one before). Now, I need help from you people in reaching a decision as to which one I should go for? And considering the fact that I'm in love with my UM2s which CANs would best suit my hearing taste? P.S. I don't own a solid state amp at home so would require to run the CANS (if i end up buying one) directly off the source or via the mini. Budget: 400-600S$ |

You can try getting an Alessandro MS2i if you would prefer a pair of headphones. Else, yes.. go ahead for um56 moulds for your um2 to further improve it. |

ahdui - What about Senn HD 595? From the reviews that I've seen they seem to be the most comfortable and offer the biggest bang for the buck. Do you think the same about Alessandros? |

I think you will have to choose between the sound signature you prefer between the 2 headphones; Alessandro MS2i and Sennheiser HD 595. If you are more concerned over the general mids-highs, you will likely to look on the Alessandro MS2i, mids-lows for Sennheiser HD595 for more warmth in your music. The HD595 is also sometimes known for a Hi-fi headphone than audiophile headphone. Give these 2 headphones a shot. Given your budget range, I thought of a solution. Get a headphone as well as UM56?

If possible you might want to save a little more and get the ES2 instead.I don't own one but I am going for one soon.I somehow managed to squeeze in my friend's ES2 a little somehow and I was amazed. It sounded good but not that good enough on my iRiver T10.Somehow there's still slight noise coming out from the ES2.However,on my friend's U3 it sounded so perfect.(well maybe not that perfect) However,I won't regret spending money on the ES2.Even though the ES2 wasn't fully plugged into my ears, the details are all coming out so clearly and the bass is just at the right level. Now I'm like so in love with the ES2. |

Thanks for your suggestion but I've already got myself a pair of Senn 595. I am now saving for a pair of half shell UM56 and since the bug has really bitten me hard, I'm looking for a decent DAC as well :ph43r: |

As a UM2 user, getting the UM56s has been the best investment that I could've made to improve my UM2s. |

At that price point, you could also get either the K601 locally or the K701 from Northern Sounds and Lights (though having problems with the headphone would present some problem without local warranty). The most important thing would be to try the headphones before buying. |
