they're not the most attractive headphones
but they're quite comfortable and feel like they'll stand up to a good amount of abuse
i'm usually not one to rush into 'impulsive' purchases, but i was very impressed by the set zonalblitz lent me to demo ... so much so that I ended up buying a pair the same evening (although I was 'encouraged' to do so :P) i've never been a particular fan of the Beyer signature sound, but I quite like this pair. Its quite well balanced, with some lovely highs and very smooth transition. Its biggest flaw (which may lessen with burn in), was a slight weakness in the absolute middle of the midrange, which translates to slightly less 'oomph' for vocals, although I can't complain about the lack of detail in any other area. final off-the-cuff rating : 8.25/10 (will review again after burn in) - 0.5 for weak midrange - 0.5 for slightly clinical highs and high-mids, sibilance on female vocals (slightly unnatural) -0.5 for overly clean bass (i prefer a warmer sound) -0.25 for looks

I personally have listened from other Top of the Line monitoring headphones like : Sennheiser HD280, AKG 171/271/240, Sony 7506 etc. However, personally I liked the Beyerdynamic DT 150 the most. Highly detailed, smooth highs, warm and defintiion in bass thumps are examples of its advantages this headphone has. It is also capable to deliver power of explosive notes without distortion. You can literally feel the size of these 'pixels' of the sound imaging of everything and anything with this headphone. I will rather think this headphone is rather Highly Recommended. Anyway, to Monkeygod; I have clocked 40 hours of burn-in from play. I must say the High-Highs have became mellower. The mid-Mids like you said is still little laid back. Will give more time to run-in for now. *Usually monitoring headphones are not suppose to have drastic change in sound signature after long use or burn-in. |

I just tried the DT-150 on a tube amp, doesn't sound too good overall as the sound signature is changed considerably, mid-bass is overly warm and a bit sluggish. However the mid-range is improved tremendously. It has excellent synergy and sounds best with most solid state amps though.

zonal - i would definitely also recommend this headphone
it works surprisingly well with both male and female vocals, and as i said earlier, the balance is very nice
i don't need (or want!) the sound to change a lot - just to 'brush away' the imperfections

I will most probably be dropping by Frankie's place to pick up some tubes to do some rolling to match the DT-150s. I have a rough idea of what I should get, hopefully I get it right.

Sorry to OT a lil... I really liked this cool "hand shake" shot. Was it done by chance or intentionally? Very creative! ![]()
From my brief audition of these, I found them to have a very upfront presentation, much unlike the "clinicalness" of the old DT880s. Details were definitely there with alot of definition(probably too much for my comfort), which I guess is not exactly my cuppa. IMO pairing them with tubes, which usually gives an even fuller sound+some distortion dosent sound like a very good idea for these monitors... I dont think people use tube amps to monitor do they? Please do report back with your "experiments"! by the way, what tube is that? Its huge! |

This hand shake shot was really a handshake.
Not intentionally. My elbow slipped from support when i took the shot. I think the warm bass portion could be enhanced by the interconnect. I only managed to find just 1 interconnect which can do the do relatively well. I think monkeygod will understand which piece I'm refering to. |

Congrats to all those on the list. I'm a little jealous. This is one of the best headphones I've heard in a long time... If you look past the appearance, it's got a great sound. |

Wow! Those are seriously retro looking! I wonder how they sound like? Can they be driven out of an ipod? or do I need an amp? Pardon me for my newbieness. |

This pair of monitors is 250 ohms per side. An iPod alone will not be able to drive this pair of monitors for optimal listening condition. You will certainly want to drive them from an amplifier.

It sounds really good, very detailed and also good soundstage. My only gripe with it is that it does get pretty warm after some listening time because of the leather pads. |

OOOOOhhhhhh..... something right up my alley... had these for 2 years(or more? i cant remember) and im still loving this pair... my main home cans! cruise - its worth noting that the DT-100 has a totally different sound signature... its more for broadcasting use rather than monitoring which the dt-150 is much better at... |

Pair the DT-150 with a sweet Solid State amp and you get one of the most competent close-backs ever.
But it seriously require lots of power to be able to perform. Happy listening. |
