Not so sure of the street price of the Sennheisers, but the local AKGs are about 10-15% more ba...whether the additional savings is worth forgoing local warranty is entirely up to you...

____ for the HD650 is a good price. Cheaper than local but you forfeit the warranty.

Hi all,

i'm going overseas for holiday and there's a chance to get these 2 at about SGD550 each. Do you guys think it's a good price for HD650 and K701?

thanks

For the AKG K701, I think its a soso price. Can be gotten online for a cheaper price. As for the HD650, its also a soso price. But either way, its all better than local prices.

The Northern Sounds and Light has the K701 for quite a bit less than the local price (email them for it). if I didn't remember wrongly, which is a great price (probably the best there is). However, there's no local warranty.

PS: Sorry about the mention of the price. Edited post

It's good to get it cheap online, but when you buy from a local dealer, you're not just paying for the product, you're also paying for good service, the satisfaction of knowing that you'll be taken care of, and most importantly helping to ensure the survival of the brick and mortar establishments.

While you may think that you are saving a bundle buying overseas, that would be a one time deal. You may not have the luxury of the post sales support and also the convenience of walking back to the store and getting post sales service. You will also lose out on building a rapport with a local dealer who can provide more services in the future.

IMO, I would rather buy that little bit more if I know that there are good local dealers. I support them to support me.

Frankly, these price discussions should not be posted in this forum. These kind of penny pinching mercenary posts do not belong here and should be deleted.

yongchris,

I made this thread not to undermine the business of local dealers but merely to stretch my limited budget so I too can explore more of this hobby. I'm sorry that maybe my wallet does not stretch as far but I want to make it clear to you that I fully appreciate the service of the local dealers, whose efforts enable me to start on such a fun hobby. I'll continue to make purchase from them precisely for the reasons you mentioned

However, I find it uncalled for to be termed mercenary. It's ridiculous to say that I'm doing this all for monetary rewards as your term implied. I'm just in it for a chance to experience more headphones. If this wish offended you in someway, I offer my apology.

I'll gladly welcome your opinions on future topics but let's leave this unpleasantness behind.

I think that this may not be exactly true. I've actually established a good buyer seller relationship with online retailers like TTVJ and have sent my non working items back to him and he's replaced them for me F.O.C. I guess its also got to do with who you deal with online.

For me as long as the premium is not too obscenely high than I wouldn't mind paying for a local set. I just hate the hassle of shipping a product overseas to get it fixed of replaced. Sometimes, I rather spend a bit more and feel better about my purchase than to save a few dollars and waste more money on shipping charges back overseas and not to mention the downtime.
People call me things like nuts, crazy and insane, I just tell them I am very serious when it comes to my hobbies.

What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.

The most important thing in this hobby, sit down with a nice drink and enjoy the music. =]
